Interview: Camille Peruto

Philadelphia based singer-songwriter Camille Peruto creates her music with a melodious blend of pop, rock and folk sounds. After appearing on American Idol in 2015, Camille began recording her new record, From the Sea to the Sky. The alternative/pop album has gotten significant recognition, and helped earn her a sponsorship from Larrivée Guitars. Camille will also release a music video for the track Silent Melody, on June 16th. You can stream the album below!

We managed to catch up with Camille as she talked about her latest release and more!

How has the release of your album From The Sea To The Sky been so far?

So far, I have gotten wonderful feedback! I have some radio stuff coming up, which is really exciting. I will also be releasing a music video for one of the songs in less than a month. I am so grateful that everyone is enjoying the album and that I have the honor of talking to people like you about it’s release!

Tell us about the release:

“From the Sea to the Sky” was released on January 21st. The CD Release party was sold out, so we had an even bigger CD Release party two months later in March. The release of this album was something that I had been anticipating for years (since my first album came out), and I am so happy with how it is going!

What is your favourite song from the Album?

My favorite is always changing! Lately, I have been loving “Silent Melody” when I want something upbeat, and “Lagoon” when I want something with a cooler, more laid back feel.

How is it different to performing on American Idol to performing at live venues?

On American Idol there are cameras everywhere, so there is more pressure leading up to the performances. BUT, I have to say that once I started singing it felt natural and all of the nerves went away. I tried to really believe in myself and to give it all I got.

If you could work with any artist on a new song, who would it be and why?

I have always written music on my own. I very rarely co-write, but it’s something that requires a lot of trust, so I think it’s normal to feel the way I do. When I eventually start co-writing a bit more, I think it would be crazy to work with John Mayer or Sara Bareilles. There is something magical about John Mayer’s writing, and his songs really touch me. Sara is the queen of keys/piano and I haven’t written on either, so that collaboration would be really educational and flat out awesome. Both are very influential songwriters and I love everything they do.

What has been your favourite moment while recording the album?

I had one of the best times of my life making this CD. I especially love singing background vocals. They are the most fun for me because I love being experimental and hearing the song become complete with them (they’re typically the last step). One of my favorites off my new album, “Lagoon”, felt a bit empty to me until I sang the background vocals. It is crazy how they transformed the song.

What’s the live music scene like in Philadelphia?

I have met some truly amazing artists playing in Philly. It is a really cool, laid back scene and everyone is different in their own way. I’m lucky to have played some of the best Philadelphia venues and each one is special. It is a great place to start a career. It’s easy to land an opening spot for a big show, or just to gig around!

Would you ever tour in Europe/UK one day?

I would absolutely LOVE to come to Europe! I haven’t ever been. It would be a dream come true.
