Live Review: Bury Tomorrow at Bournemouth’s Anvil

Bury Tomorrow

Who said Sundays were supposed to be quiet? We had a double dose of Bury Tomorrow, as they rounded off their 2017 Stage invasion tour with a matinée and evening show at the Anvil in Bournemouth, which sold out within minutes of being on sale. Recently signed to Sony Records and several successful tours under their belt, the BT boys ended it on a high.

Loathe

Supported by Loathe, based in Merseyside, Liverpool and signed to SharpTone Records. The band warmed up the crowd excellently, thus proving they are a perfect support choice for this stage invasion tour take two. Loathe started off with It’s Yours, followed with a selection of Dance On My Skin, Banshee, Stigmata, East Of Eden and many other brilliant tracks ending with Babylon. The pounding riffs and excellent breakdowns creating the slow sludgy feel to the atmosphere as the crowd around banged their heads to the boisterous beats. The afternoon the crowd were a little shy however, repeat offenders made up for it in the evening stage diving, crowd surfing and with pits galore. Everyone just let loose. Off on The Deadweight Tour this month supporting Wage War, Gideon and many more big named bands, these guys are definitely ones not to miss live if you have the chance to see them, America are in for a treat.

Bury Tomorrow originating from Southampton area in the UK, absolutely slayed the Anvils stage at Bournemouth and beating my theory on how many people you can actually fit on that stage at one time. The tour was named Stage Invasion for a reason. The amount of time and passion these boy put into every track is portrayed and returned tenfold by their fans (#Team BT).

Bury Tomorrow

The respect and love shared from band to crowd alike is truly admirable and hasn’t been achieved by any UK metalcore band on such a massive scale, which makes Bury Tomorrow unique in their own little way. However, I can see Our Hollow, Our Home following in their footsteps in the future. I personally, might be a little biased for this review, as I have supported the band for over ten years when they played venues like this tour, as a norm. Every time I have seen these guys live they just keep giving, more power, more breakdowns, more pits and more passion.

Bury Tomorrow

They played the Anvil converting the basement into a constant sweat box making you feel like you have been stuffed into a lorry and left out in the desert to melt. The crowd moved and moshed to their songs, singing back to the boys each and every lyric, showing true dedication amongst the fans there that day. Starting off the set Front man Daniel Winter-Bates slaying the mic playing the song Royal Blood from the Album ‘The Union Of Crowns’ released in 2012 with powerful dominating low growls and high screams. Totally engaging with the audience throughout both shows, giving the fans the choice of which songs to play on each set, we had two choices the first being The Torch (Runes) / Knight Life (The Union Of Crowns) to which both set go-errs got to hear The Torch in the matinee and Knight Life in the evening set. The second choice given was between You & I (Portraits) / Of Glory(Runes).

Playing a mixture of songs from The Union Of Crowns album such as An Honourable Reign, Sceptres and Lionheart. From the Earthbound Album released in 2016, they played songs such as Cemetery, Last Light, 301 and the title track Earthbound. Then a couple of golden oldies; The Western Front from the On Waxed Wings – EP released in 2009 and You & I from the Portraits Album also released in 2009. With a sprinkling of tracks, The Torch and Man On Fire from the Runes Album released in 2015.

Bury Tomorrow

Absolutely destroying the stage and ending with Man On Fire, the fans invaded the stage in true BT fashion. We had the chance to get up close and personal to the point we had to change peddles for the bassist Dav because he was standing on an amp whilst playing. Watching Adam on the drums playing the last song on the set was a sight to see and the amount of energy taken to produce such beautiful beats makes you respect his talent even more. This was a day to remember as we shared the closeness and the intimacy between the band and the fans that day. We have been promised a possible Stage Invasion 3 in the future, so fingers crossed for that! I also got insight that they are currently working on some new material which I’m sure fans alike we be excited to hear.

Overall, a fantastic send off to the final round of performances of the tour, Jason’s harmonic lyrics, Dawson a raging riff lord, Dani’s beasty vocals and Dav the bass king and Adam’s Drumming sensations made this event something special. Not forgetting the performance from loathe which blew me away. Both bands worth a check out, if you haven’t already!
