Interview: Seaway talk latest album

Canadian band Seaway is thrilled to announce their new album Vacation today via Pure Noise Records. As the band’s follow up to 2015’s Colour Blind, Vacation marks a progression in sound while still giving listeners the high
energy and well-crafted hooks they have come to expect.

Formed in 2011, Seaway consists of Ryan Locke (vocals), Patrick Carleton (guitar, vocals), Ken Taylor (drums), Adam Shoji (bass), and Andrew Eichinger (guitar). The band has become known for their highly infectious brand of pop punk – one that strikes the perfect balance between the two styles and recalls a time when the genre centred on having fun.

The band released their debut album Hoser in 2013. The following year, the five signed to Pure Noise Records to release their follow up EP, All in My Head. Their sophomore full length Colour Blind was released in 2015 via Pure Noise Records following an entire summer on the Vans Warped Tour. Check out Curse Me Out below!

We managed to catch up with guitarist Andrew who talks about the latest album and more!

How pumped are you for the release of your new album Vacation?

We can’t wait! We put a lot of work into making the best record we could and we love it, so it’s nice to finally get it out for the world to hear.

Can you tell us anything about the album no one knows?

Our second single, “Something Wonderful”, was written on a whim in the last week of recording. We debated on whether we needed to write another song but decided because we had some time, we might as well. Glad we did!

How has the release of Curse Me Out gone down with fans so far?

It seems like it’s going well online. As soon as we released it people were requesting it at shows so we started to play it and it’s been really fun so far. It’s not really a song that people can go crazy for in a live setting but there’s lots of singing along, which is great.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

I think it’d be fun to work with Knuckle Puck. We’ve been friends for so long now and have been playing shows since the beginning so working with them on something would be sick. We both have very different styles but I think they write great songs so it’d be interesting to see what we could come up with together.

So you’re currently on tour, how well has this gone so far?

It’s been really fun. The new songs are going over great and people are picking up “Vacation”. That’s all we can ask for, so we’re pretty happy.

Is there any venue you are still looking forward to playing?

We play Riot Fest in a few days, which is also release day for “Vacation” so that should be a party. Other than that, I’m really excited to do two nights at Chain Reaction in Anaheim, just because the shows there are always wild.

What was your favourite moment while recording the new album?

Just being in LA working with great producers in Mike Green and Kyle Black, in a completely foreign setting than what we’re used to was a really cool experience. One of my favourite moments was actually during pre production with Alan Day. After a full day of demoing, Alan went home, and we wrote Lula On the Beach overnight. It started out as kind of a joke but then turned into a really cool song that’s a little bit out of our element.

What were your first gigs you ever attended as a child?

My first concert was Green Day, New Found Glory and Sugarcult. One of the first local gigs I remember going to was a Moneen record release show for “The Red Tree” at a youth centre in Burlington, Ontario.
