Interview: Waiting For Titor

Anglo-Italian Alternative quartet Waiting for Titor continue their climb
with the release of their new video single Halo – The single is lifted from the band’s debut EP
Halo pt.1, out on Friday 2nd June via Diva Records.

Featuring Alex Palladini (Vocals and Synths), Mike Tomasini (Guitars), Max
Andrini (Bass and Synths), and Vince Picciolo (Drums), Waiting For Titor
take their moniker from John Titor, a fictional name used by a blogger
claiming to be a time traveller from the year 2036. Born in 2013, from the
ashes of much respected Italian crossover crew Convergence, Waiting for
Titor soon honed in on their sound, and were quickly snapped up by Belgian
label Diva Records.

In alignment with their namesake, the progressive crew look towards the
future of music, and in doing so, have travelled and played in many
different locations, aiming to soak up a slew of influences stemming from
rock and electronics to orchestral elements. The band cite Nine Inch Nails,
New Order, Depeche Mode, Foo Fighters, Sigur Ros and Massive Attack as key
contributing factors to their engaging and expansive sound. When the Alt
synth rockers released their debut single Teardrop, a personal and powerful
synth rock re-interpretation of Massive Attack’s masterpiece, it helped to
place Waiting For Titor on the map. Check out the new video below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about the latest video, upcoming release and more!

How has the release of Halo gone down so far with fans?

So far people reception of Halo has been very positive: they love the video and they really like the song. Its sound is a bit different and more introspective, compared to our previous single Teardrop and to the other songs we performed live, so people are always surprised when they hear it for the first time.

Tell us a bit about this track

Halo was the last song we completed, out of a dozen we produced, and we soon realized it was a powerful track, It kind of changed the way we looked at the other songs.
It’s a song about the obsession for creation and about the dual nature of creativity, which can be bliss and martyr at the same time.
Halo summarizes all the main themes of the EP: the obsession for creativity, the dual nature of all the relationships, the strive for eternity, and a forward thinking attitude towards life.

How pumped are you to be releasing your EP Halo pt.1?

We are really very excited: we worked really hard for 3 years on this EP, and other songs we will publish in the future, so being able to finally see that all out effort is paying off is a great feeling. \It’s The beginning of a new chapter for the band and  we are very excited about it,

What is your favourite track from this?

It’s hard to pick one, as we are really proud of all of them. If we exclude Halo, which is definitively one of our favourites, I would say that Leaving Again, the EP closing track, is the one we like the most, because it has all the elements we like in music: introspection, energy and abrasion at the same time.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

That’s a difficult one! Well, among the many we would love to work with, I would say Nine Inch Nails is the one: their music influenced us so much that having the honour of working with them would be a such a huge achievement and pleasure for us.

What is the rock scene like in Italy?

The rock scene in Italy is really struggling at the moment: unfortunately mainstream music has taken over all the best spots in the media and many venues that use to promote alternative music are either closed or struggling to keep up. It’s v `n   n  n ery sad because there are so many good bands who deserve more attention and could do really well with a bit of support.

Will you be touring at all this year, if so would you tour in the UK?

Absolutely: the plan is to promote the EP live in three main countries: UK, Italy and Belgium. We played an EP release gig in Manchester at Rebellion, which was awesome and we are planning to hit the road again here in the UK at the end of September. During the summer, we will focus on few festivals in Italy and hopefully Belgium.

How was it working with Geert D’Haene on the new EP?

We have been working with Geert for many years now, since the days with our previous project Convergence. Geert is one of the best producers and friends we have ever met: his vision of music production is really organic and he is always able to make the best out of every situation. Without him we would be lost!

What was your funniest moment while recording the EP?

The recording and production of the EP were split between Manchester, Belgium and Italy.
I think on the most enjoyable and funniest moment was when Geert came over spent a whole week in Italy minxing the EP: we temporarily set up as a mixing studio in the bass player flat, which is located in the city centre of a very historical and beautiful city called Faenza. We had such a good time and so much fun, although probably the neighbours were not so happy about it!
