In support of World Mental Health Day, Northampton singer-songwriter Maddox Jones has opened up about his own mental health journey and how it has shaped his upcoming sophomore album, ‘Waiting for the World to Turn‘. Slated for release on November 1st via Radikal Records, the album is a deeply personal collection that explores themes of self-reflection, personal growth, and resilience.
Jones, who has been vocal about the cathartic experience of writing this new record, shared how therapy has helped him reconnect with his younger self. Speaking on his track ‘Talk to You’, he revealed, “It’s a song to my 11 year old self, to say “I’ve got you, you can do this.” I struggled with being bullied at school because of my upbringing and it’s effected my mental health a lot. ” He hopes the track will resonate with others who have experienced similar struggles, offering a message of strength and understanding.
Another standout song, ‘Treading Water’, captures the feeling of just trying to stay afloat during difficult times. “Sometimes I feel like I’m barely getting through each day,” Jones said. “But there’s realisation that I’m not alone in feeling like this. I think that it’s so important to remember that the way you feel, someone else is feeling it too which makes it so important to talk to each other about what’s going on in our heads, it could save your life one day.”
Jones’ journey to mental wellness mirrors the broader themes of ‘Waiting for the World to Turn‘, which features a range of songs that blend indie rock, pop, and soul influences. As the singer-songwriter embarks on a UK tour supporting Will Young, his message of self-acceptance and healing aligns perfectly with the spirit of World Mental Health Day, encouraging fans to embrace vulnerability and seek connection during life’s toughest moments.
