Fight To Survive

Post- lockdown life is analysed and discussed in the latest album from our friends Burnt Out Wreck, emotional, physical, and mental, all areas of our sanity is addressed and scrutinised under the watchful eye of Gary Moat and company. The band name itself more than adequately describes how I’ve been feeling these past few months, only now am I able to make any sense of what is happening around me. It’s been a struggle; many people trying to make ends meet, if it was difficult before then it is a damn sight harder now.
The invitation is to join these Rock veterans to ‘Stand and Fight’, be determined in your approach, not losing sight of the path you are taking. We start with the instantly recognisable whiskey-soaked vocals of Gary Moat, a bit rough around the edges, sending shockwaves through our worn-out carcasses. He is supported by fellow ruffians Alex Carmichael – bass/backing vocals, Andy McLaughlan- lead guitar/backing vocals, Richard Upson lead guitar/backing vocals and Paul Gray on drums.
‘Big Up Yourself’ gets the show on the road with an incredibly important message about how we need to feel good about ourselves first, secure our own mental well-being so we can handle anything else that comes our way. The title track ‘Stand and Fight’ needs no explanation, it is robust and confident enough to send all your worries packing.
‘Ain’t Done Nothing Wrong’ is an affirmation of innocence, knowing for sure that you are not at fault.
Working through the tracks, I get that stadium feel, friendly and offering a hand up out of the mess we are in. Each tune heightens and elevates the mood, feel good hard Rock, with the distinctive down ‘n dirty groove, riffage that ignites our buried emotions, as we endeavour to re-build our lives.
‘More Than Anything’ is another great example of rousing choruses, at 2.48 it’s time for audience participation, punching the air vigorously is a prerequisite. I really like the introduction to ‘Turpentine’ there is an inviting quality which is true of all the songs here, but this is well placed to keep this train a-rollin’ and enhance the continuity.
Our war wounds will be healed for sure, Burnt Out Wreck will see to that, give them a seat at your table, and witness a journey of self – discovery, a unity that will prove how we are stronger together and an unflinching courage at a time of great need. Your ‘Blood, Sweat and Tears’ have been acknowledged and humbly reciprocated by this album, you need fear no more, accept that you have been heard and your voice is on this record. Their words, your words and what they limn is an integral part of this work, stand proud like a lion, now is not the time to back down. Shake off the dust and debris and immerse yourself in another loser anthem; you can laugh and cry into your beers, hold them aloft my friends and see how ‘I’m A Loser Too’ wins your heart.
I’m posting this on a Monday as it’s the perfect way to kickstart your week, and air guitar your way to Friday and beyond.
