Zoe Scott teams up with Bossa Nova royalty to release ‘Wave’

‘Wave’ is the latest single release from Zoe Scott’s phenomenal and serene album, Shades of Love, which features her legendary collaboration with Daniel Jobim, grandson of Bossa Nova royalty.

Known primarily for her role in rock ‘n’ roll, it was a conscious decision to move onto jazz vocals, one which reflected the current stage of her life’s journey. “I remember the hard edges of performing rock music and the rock scene in general. I loved it at first – the angst, the power, the energy – but simultaneously, I recall how boxed in I felt,” says Zoe.

“That day, I started a journey of self-discovery and healing. With that came new artistic expressions and new ways to feel and receive love. One day I came across Antonio Carlos Jobim’s music, and I was swept away. I felt his soul through every note, and in that moment, I knew I had to make this album.”

The song ‘Wave’ is perhaps the culmination of her research into, and her love of, Bossa Nova music. Tranquil, serene and romantic, the song represents everything Scott felt drawn to about Bossa Nova and jazz in general. The duet with Daniel Jobim also represents the importance of the Bossa Nova tradition, as Daniel is the grandson of the ‘father of bossa nova’, Antonio Carlos Jobim himself.

In the 1960s, Antonio Carlos Jobim said, “The first recording of a song is the seed from which the song will grow.” On Shades of Love, Jobim’s grandson Daniel lent backup vocals to Zoe’s rendition of Wave, bringing the seed to fruition once more for new audiences. The duet takes place across the globe, featuring Scott in Malibu and Jobim in Rio, and places importance on the role of tradition, collaboration, love and hope during trying times.
