EP Review: DITZ – 5 Songs

Brighton based band, DITZ, are releasing their new five-track EP on the 3rd July 2020.

The EP features both new and previously released singles, merging hardcore 80’s and 90’s rock amongst punk and grunge in a frenzy of heavy-duty sound.

DITZ are mind-numbingly brazen and expose their sonic palette of thrashing energy, noise and frustration to the world in every track on the EP.

Following this and smashing through the speakers is the first track, ‘Seeking Arrangement’. Like many of the other tracks the distorted vocals, bass and drums don’t falter in building up to the huge explosion of sound in the chorus. The jarring effect of ending the track so suddenly is brilliant, leaving you on the edge waiting for the next huge wave of sound to carry you along with the EP.

The next track certainly does so, as ‘Gayboy’ takes a much more serious tone in criticising the self-perpetuating anger of bigotry. Dripping in frustration and sarcasm, the message is carried loud and clear, spiralling through the vocals and carried by the off-kilter rhythm.

‘Total 90’ also gets a spot on the EP after its huge success in achieving airtime on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 and Radio X. Like the following track ‘Role Model’, both tracks thrive on discordance and relentlessly power through haunting riffs and raucous tension.

Slamming the EP to an end is their powerful cover of Peaches, ‘F*ck the pain away’.

The screaming electricity which ebbs and flows throughout drives the heavier element making the track unique to the original.

Powered by the manic thrashing of sounds it’s easy to lose yourself in the noise as the lyrics, melody and drama of the track all bleed together to create a huge finale to a huge EP!

The five-track EP will be released 3rd July 2020 via Alcopop! Records and can be pre-ordered here!
