Live Review: 3Teeth and Deadfilmstar at O2 Institute Birmingham

3Teeth

Cruelty And The 3Teeth

Independence Day my friends, time to celebrate our freedoms and be grateful for what we have; a glass half full, rather than half empty approach. It’s tough though, in a world that seems to be kicking back regularly and at greater strength.

I am eternally grateful though, for this neat little job I have, where I get to experience music in all its shiny armour or even the rusted and encrusted variety and write about what it means to me.

On this glorious summers’ day, Deadfilmstar from nearby Coventry take to the stage and I am instantly reminded of Mortiis( I found their singer quite creepy when I first saw him) as our friend Gary of the scarily black contact lenses, snarls and spits his way across the floor, and entices the audience to advance forth and bathe in his gothic glory. They are an untamed  and unbridled beast that needs no beckoning; working extremely hard and defiant in the face of adversity. The crowd being a little thin on the ground, they are exceptionally capable and competent.

Deadfilmstar

Opening with ‘Now I Wanna Be Your God’ reminiscent of King Iggy, our friends head out on the highway and by crikey we are happy to be in their company. Yes, I had noticed the ‘girl in the band’ Esther, but I purposely will not single her out like some writers, only because she is a talented, beautiful and an accomplished musician, giving a performance like her life depends on it, just like the men onstage with her. She is inspirational in a society that still cannot wholly accept women and what they do.

Not having heard any music from them before, they pack a hefty punch, and just as well, as they have set the stage quite nicely for our next merry troop.

On comes Andrew Eldritch( sigh…swoon….faint), oh it’s his twin, Alexis Mincolla, singer with our industrial metal friends 3Teeth all the way from the USA. His voice is very Eldritch -like, and so is his onstage presence. Using his ‘Divine Weapon’ to entrance and entertain we tumble happily into the ‘Pit Of Fire’ and bow down to the ‘Master Of Decay’. An intriguing display of heaviness and my gig buddy for the evening found them incredible to watch, shouting down my left ear after each song.

It is the shape of industrial metal to come folks, straight from the grinding, factory floor to the smoke billowing from the chimneys, marking a time of endeavour, struggle and emerging triumphant. Heavy metal, in all its guises is indeed in safe hands.

Get in line folks and cut your 3Teeth here!
