Interview: As Flames Rise talk latest single ‘New Beginnings’

Metalcore behemoths from the rolling green hills of Dorset on the Jurassic coast. As Flames Rise, are a 6 piece band that are relentless.  Creating some of the most brutal songs with Matty Bowdidge savagely high screams and Jack England’s demonic low gurgles, they make themselves known as soon as they start to perform. Doing gigs, tours and festivals with Our Hollow Our Home, Bury Tomorrow, Black Peaks, Devilsoldhisoul, Loathe, Dream State, City is  Ours and The Uncharted.

Their up and coming title track release ‘New Beginnings’ is sure to be a fan favourite off the latest 4 track EP.  Accompanied with the Silent Hill eske music video this track is dark and deep and will get the mosh pitters bloodied. With more shows lined up this year it is sure to be one hell of a year for UK Metalcore and As Flames Rise are brightly burning at the centre.  Check out New Beginnings below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their latest single and more!

So how has the release of your single New Beginnings gone down with fans so far?
So far so good! We’ve had incredible support from our amazing fans and gained so many new ones along the way, with increased Spotify listeners and YouTube subscribers, it has taken us all by surprise. We are so grateful to everyone.

Can you tell us something about the single no one else knows?
The song was originally written about 2 years ago but not as heavy and different lyrics. Then after a few member changes it came together in its current form. That’s when Jack joined really and added his rap god bit to verse two! Plus the dirty guttural squeals on the breakdowns. Also, the figures in the video are Jack and Jay!

So you describe the video being Silent Hill themed, is this a game you all grew up playing?
Laurie and Jack especially are big fans of weird horror and Silent Hill is a big influence for a lot of their idea’s when it comes to visuals. The movement was inspired by the nurses in the movie where they jolt around sporadically. The shadow type figures we decided was the best way to keep the video dark and still look serious. We’d looked at witch doctor masks etc . However, they didn’t go with the jolty movements in the same way.

So what’s next for you, have you got an EP/album planned for 2019?
April 5th is the release date for the EP New Beginnings. It’ll be available on all digital streaming platforms and for purchase on iTunes and Google play etc. This year we aren’t planning on stopping and want to start writing for our next release straight away.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
Jack would love to work with Till Lindemann of Rammstein as his voice is so iconic and he is a certified bad-ass. Laurie loves Max Cavalera of Soulfly. Matty, would work with Suicide Silence as they’re the band that got him into extreme metal.

So, you will be supporting Napoleon in Bournemouth this month, how pumped are you for this one?
Very stoked and also sad as it is their farewell show, Jay is a big fan too so he is so pumped to be playing this show and giving them a good send off.

Will you be on tour at all in 2019 or any festivals lined up?
We have a number of shows and festivals lined up already around the UK and hope to throw a tour in at some point this year too so keep your eyes peeled on our website and Facebook.

What do you get up to in your spare time when not working on music?
Matty and Jay are always playing Fortnite 24/7 when not doing music. Laurie is being a Papa to his newborn son. Rossco, is usually getting smashed on rum. Simon, being vegan and blitzing the gym and Jack Netflix and chill.
