Interview: Third Lung talk latest EP

Third Lung released their latest EP Sooner or Later. Having released the first track ‘Sister Sinner’ back in November, they went on to release title track ‘Sooner Or Later’ earlier this year.

Tracklist

1. Sister Sinner
2. Can’t Be Taken Back
3. Sooner Or Later
4. While You Sleep

Known for their incredible ability to project emotional tales and whirlwind stories through the growling, stadium-worthy vocals of Tom Farrelly, Third Lung can pull on both your heartstrings and your head-banging muscle at exactly the same time. Joined by guitarist and backing vocalist Camilla Jurasek, bassist Rob Jacques and drummer Sam Waugh, Tom’s real-life talk is coated in a blanket of anthemic rock and roll noise that the Foo Fighters, Oasis and Stereophonics would be more than proud of.

Born in 2014, Third Lung started their ever-growing legacy deep within the suburbs of Reading. Now just a few years later they’re playing every corner of the UK and broadening their musical heritage to extreme heights. The idea of a single is to lay down the foundation of the delights that are about to follow and ’Sister Sinner’ did just that – straight from the heart, to the heart rock music that leaves you singing out loud and punching your fists in the air by the time it’s reached the first chorus. Next up is ‘Sooner Or Later,’ a riff-heavy optimistic story-telling record that explores gritty truths, big room build ups and some of the most epic impactful chorus drops you’ll have heard in a long time. Cementing their place as a trustworthy, consistent and reliable source of rock infused indie, you can expect much more of the same in the rest of their EP. ‘Can’t Be Taken Back’ has a fittingly melancholy tone to match the raw emotion of the lyrics, whilst ‘While You Sleep’ ends the EP with an explosion of marching snares, growling guitars and another beautifully explored story.

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their latest EP and more!

So how has your latest single Sooner or Later gone down with fans?

We’ve had a great reception. We are meeting more new people all the time. It’s amazing seeing the band grow in front of our eyes. We are obsessed with what we do and it’s great when a song we’ve poured so much love into like ‘Sooner Or Later’ goes down so well.

And the EP is out now, how was the release show at Reading’s Oakford Social Club?

An unbelievable night! We were completely overwhelmed. There were many familiar faces there. Friends, family showing such unconditional support. The really exciting thing at the moment is seeing all the new faces turn up. We had great support from Handstand Parade who played a killer set. Great venue, great night. Impressive dance skills from a special few. Lol. A lot of sore heads the next morning! We won’t forget it in a hurry.

What is your favourite single on the EP?

Ahhh tough one. Love them both. They are both energetic anthems and send a very optimistic message. ‘Sooner Or Later’ seems to have a more immediate connection with our fans. ‘Sister Sinner’ has a slightly edgier arrangement. Nope. Sorry. Still can’t decide. We’ll leave that one up to you lot.

How was it working These Bloody Thieves Records on the EP?

It’s great working with these guys. You need someone like this fighting in your corner and keeping up with the day to day manic-ness behind the scenes!

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Robert Plant. He’s incredible. His recent albums have so much diversity and the soundscape is huge. Really evokes a landscape which we love. It would be so much fun to sit in a studio and record layers of sound with someone like that.

Will you be touring at all this year?

We have some festivals booked in already such as Camden Rocks on 2nd of June, and more to be announced. Keep your eyes peeled.

What do you get up to in your spare time when not working on music?

Spare time? Don’t get a lot of that. When we said we were obsessed with what we do. We meant it. Lol.
