Lets Rock Southampton celebrated their 10 years of retro this year and it certainly lived up to it’s name! Pat Sharp and Dave Benson Phillips kept fans entertained throughout with their DJ sets and introductions to acts which certainly didn’t dissapoint.
The afternoon saw the likes of Snap! and Aswad take to the stage with crowds gathering in by their thousands. Transvision Vamp’s Wendy James also was a real hit as she sand the band’s classic hit Baby I Don’t Care which really threw back the years.
Kim Appleby played a classic Mel and Kim hit with That’s The Way It Is as fans were really getting involved and dancing along as well as her own Don’t Worry. Disco legends Black Lace then performed three songs including Agadoo and even chanted ‘It’s Coming Home’ when England were winning in the World Cup.
The Blockheads then performed the likes of Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, Reason to be Cheerful Part 3 and of course Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick
Midge Ure was great however for me Sister Sledge was the stand out act and they played all their popular song which allowed fans to clap their fans and boogy down. They played Frankie, He’s the Greatest Dancer as well as the brilliant Lost in Music which lasted for a good amount of time and included the likes of a cover of Shout during the song. Kim and Debbie Sledge certainly proved there is still a lot of energy left in them.
ABC were also amazing as they sang the likes of Poison Arrow and brilliant Adam Ant then finished the festival brilliantly with a electrifying set. Overall I’d recommend this festival to anyone as it provided family friendly fun as well as something for everyone of all ages.
