Album Review: Little Caesar – Eight

LITTLE CAESAR’s Fifth studio album ‘Eight’ finds them in rude and rowdy musical health. The rich Seventies spirit, soul and texture all organically unfold to reveal an album with deep Rock & Country roots, real roots. Opener ‘21 Again’ cruises the strip with bad luck scars, unashamed stoicism and raspy retribution all proudly turned up to 11. Next, up is the Country kissed grits ‘Mama Tried’ which goes double denim to the dance, while ‘Vegas’ is pure, dirty, Jim Beam swilling Scuzz ‘N’ Roll. It includes the clarion call chorus line of “Too stupid for New York, too ugly for Hollywood.” The Roadhouse classic sounding ‘Crushed Velvet’ oozes ZZ Top, late night loving and bad luck liquor decisions.

The laid-back pace of ‘Time Enough For That’ has a subtle Lynyrd alliance tobacco taste that you can almost roll in liquorice papers, light and slowly inhale. ‘Straight Shooter’, ‘Another Fine Mess’ and ‘Morning’ all continue the albums stunning carved in wood, natural groove. Final track ‘That’s Alright’ goes from softly harmonised dual vocals to spirit quenching Rock ‘N’ Roll careering along the hard times ahead railroad track. This is a well aged, cask kept, vintage malt Rock ‘N Roll thoroughbred of a release, drink up people, drink up.
