Album Review: CJ WIldheart – Blood

CJ WILDHEART follows up the most excellent ‘Robot’ album with another semi-automatic solo release, the Pledge funded  ‘Blood’ – By Guy Shankland. Opening track ‘Tea Leaf’ fizzes with half inched attitude combined with spat out lyrics and a spine-snapping riff, the tone has been set. ‘Gutless’ is anything but, while the fairground intro to ’Lazybones’ gives way to a melodic, albeit brutal aural assault that could liquidise steel. Fourth track ‘Beak’ fails to hit the opening trio’s heights, however, it is armed with a full-on Chuck Berry-esque mid-song break which adds a much-needed touch of R’N’R refreshment. The biographical axe chopping anthem  ’50% Percent Indian’ tells the tale of “A Mowgli looking kid with plenty of attitude.” arriving in the UK in the early Eighties and the bullying/name calling received by the enlightened elders, how times have changed….’Tired Of Sex’ pushes and pants with a message of love over sex whereas lead single ’Kiss It’ is just under two minutes of sensory overload. (Watch the video on the link below.) ’Plastic Invasion’ has an anti, social media, fake fame flow while musically shifting from Metallica to Electro Rock, it makes for a prize-winning formula. Penultimate track ‘Itch’ is a tale of drugs, naivety and what lies between both. Finally ‘Lost In The Game’ follows the album’s path of synthesizer intros, pregnant pauses, chopping guitars, Punk, Metal and lots of heart. CJ has produced another tip-top album brimming with musical mischief, spice and flavour, all that’s missing is just a pinch of ginger.
