Interview: Peaness talk latest single

Fresh from slots at 2000 Trees, TRUCK and Indie Tracks festivals, Chester-based three piece indie-pop band Peaness are pleased to reveal a wonderfully fun DIY claymation video for their new single Ugly Veg which is released 4th August 2017 with a special single release party at Manchester venue Soup Kitchen on the same night.

To celebrate the release of the single the band are offering an extremely limited run of bundles which include: digital download of Ugly Veg single, Pea & Carrot plush set (handmade by drummer Rach’s mum!), NEW pixel design t-shirt, Ugly Veg badge, stickers, sweet pea seeds and a”How To Grow Your Own Sweet Peas” tutorial video.

Although the video and song are typically upbeat, light-hearted and colourful, the lyrics are a timely reminder of the environmental damage we are doing to the planet on a global scale, which comes just weeks after US President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, an international initiative to mitigate the effects of global warming.

Carrying their message of peas and love to the world, Peaness have seen a wave of rapidly growing support at radio from BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 1 and Radio X and national press coverage including Kerrang!, Rolling Stone, Clash, The Skinny Magazine, Upset and more.

Peaness’ latest EP Are You Sure? is out now via Alcopop! Records.

Fresh after their single launch Manchester’s Soup Kitchen last Friday, the girls spoke to us about the single, latest gig and more!

How has the release of the video of Ugly Veg gone down with fans so far?

The response has been good! People always like a homemade video, and what’s not to love about following the adventures of a carrot and a pea lost in this God-forsaken world?

Can you tell us something about this track no one knows?

Rach our drummer laughed in my face when I said I had an idea for a song called ‘Ugly Veg’.

Will there be another new EP released this year?

Not this year no. We’re getting back into writing now and we’ll be focusing on that. Give us a second would ya!

You’ve played the likes of 2000 Trees this year, was this a big highlight for you?

This summer has been the best yet. We’ve played some massive shows with 2000 Trees being one of them. People, like, actually came to watch us, like they know us or something? It was very weird but also incredibly awesome.

If you could work with any band or artist on a new song, who would it be and why?

The Beatles. Charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent (quoting Ru Paul…)

How was your release party in Manchester?

It.was.amazing! So many people and so much love in the room. I’ll be honest, we weren’t sure if people would come. It was a risk doing a headline show in a different city, and in a big venue, but taking risks is always exciting, right? And this risk paid off. We really love Manchester! The Soup Kitchen have supported us from the very beginning, so it was really special doing it there and working with people we’ve been in contact with for a couple years.

Will you be announcing a UK tour at all this year?

Nope. We gig nearly every weekend though. We’ve already done a ridiculous amount of shows this year considering we all have full time jobs, but that boring crap won’t be holding us back for much longer…at least that’s the plan!

What do you get up to in your spare time?

See question above ^^^^ TBH chilling is a nice luxury. Movies and pizza.
