Spanish Love Songs all the way over from the United States will be performing alongside Dance Dance Drum Drum next month across Europe. They just released their album Giant Sings The Blues earlier last year and now they are eager to get on the road once again. The band is a 4-piece punk band from Los Angeles, CA. Their sound combines the energy of of drunken bar shows and the intimacy of passionate, lived-in lyrics.  Listen to Mexico below now!

We managed to catch up with Guitarist/Singer Dylan Slocum about their latest album, tour, fans and more!

How has the release of Giant Sings The Blues gone so far?

It has been nothing short of amazing. We were proud of it when we initially put it out, but we didn’t expect anyone to actually like it. So, to be where we’re at now – nearly sold out of our first run, touring on it (especially Europe), and with people still discovering it – we feel like the luckiest dudes.

Was this any different to your previous releases?

Giant was the first official release for our band. Putting it out with Wiretap and Bearded Punk has been a thousand percent nicer than when we self-released it in 2015, just from a validation and support standpoint. We’re gearing up for our second release next year, and we can only hope it goes as smoothly and successfully as this first one.

Are you guys looking forward playing alongside Drum Drum Dance Dance?

We’re looking forward, but also watching our backs, because we all fear that DDDD is going to become Bearded Punk’s new favorite child. They’re that good. The label sent us a link to their songs and asked if we wanted to tour with them. I put on “Forty Man” and immediately said yes. We’re so psyched to play with a band that brings something different ticket. The shows are going to be amazing, in case anyone was wondering. We’re also sharing our van with them, so it would’ve been awkward if we didn’t like them…

What venue are you most looking forward to playing?

Can I say all of them? We’re really that excited. Club Action in Ulm does look like a castle or something, so I’ll give that a shoutout. But really, any venue that’s giving us a chance is pretty rad in our book.

How much does your fans mean to you guys?

Everything. We’re still surprised to find out that people actually like us. We have a small, dedicated base, and they’ve pretty much made this happen for us. We’d be a shitty bar-band in LA without them. Actually, we’d probably be broken up by now without them.

What inspires you to make music?

I don’t know. Depression and boredom are two places to start. If you hate karaoke like me, you can only get the feeling of looking ridiculous on stage if you take the time to make the music. I think it’s largely about chasing those fleeting feelings. But also depression and boredom.

If you could work with any band, who would it be and why?

This changes from week to week. Right now it would be Third Eye Blind, just so I could learn how they made that first album so damn perfect. And also just to see how to make relatable, brutally honest songs that are also the catchiest things you’ll ever hear. That would be cool.
