Album Review: Sworn Amongst’s ‘Under a Titan Sky’

Sworn Amongst
Sworn Amongst

It’s not always I listen to such a heavy album such  Sworn Amongst’s Under a Titan Sky however this was an exception with some heavy old school riffs throughout the record and some hard hitting vocals to compliment them. The opening song Wraith really set the theme for the rest of the album with some killer heavy drums by Jonny Harper that went so well with Sy James’ screaming vocals. You can tell the energy that went in to this song with the lyrics ‘Get out of my head’ being repeating a fair few times, which suggested that the band has some demons inside them. Torn Asunder was up next and once again James’ lyrics were had a massive impact on the song and times sounded a bit like a early Bring Me The Horizon. You can tell there was a lot of anger being transmitted in to this song which makes it incredibly powerful. Degradation Genesis starts off with anticipation where it gradually gets heavier and heavier before the excellent guitarist Jonny Barker really starts to get in to the song with some killer riffs. It takes just over 1.40 minutes before the vocals kick and in with it being six minutes long. Barker then does an absolute insane solo after 4 minutes that really brings the album to life. The album titled song Under a Titan Sky is just as heavy as the rest of the album and includes a lot of heavy vocals from James. You can tell why this is the feature song from the album as it is truly a song that can certainly go places.

Number five on the album list is Ruins Of Our Own Construction also includes a lot of heavy vocals and killer drums that wouldn’t sound out of place at the main stage of Download Festival. Kolim Nem then follows it, this song has slightly less heavy vocals however the lyrics really hit in to you and just makes you want to mosh even if you’re sitting in your room listening to it like me. The lyrics in particular ‘I fucking drag you down’ really can relate to many of people and in this case obviously means a lot to James. This is soon followed by yet another awesome guitar solo by Barker. The Resistance is something different and is probably my favourite song of the album. Just the opening part of the song really inspires to write music similar to the band. And of course it doesn’t take long before they continue with their hard hitting guitar riffs and solos and what makes this band even more interesting is that there is no bassist so it’s just pure guitar greatness. Through the Eyes of the Decimated provided a lot of heaviness once again which is the theme throughout the record and but this one particular really had some good vocals and lead singer James really hit some of the harder notes. The penultimate song Laments starts off fairly soft surprisingly and has some background music of a storm. Although it doesn’t take too long before some interesting riffs kick and which is different to the rest of the album. The last song Low signs the album off in true style is the kind of song that you’d want to finish last and make people want to listen more.

Rating: 8/10 – Really heavy and they have  lot of potential as a band

Favourite song: The Resistance
