What You Leave Behind

We stay at matron’s a little longer, enjoy another cup of Maxwell House and another slice of Dundee cake as we continue with a new single from Copperworm, friends of Great Music Stories and a mainstay of the Friday Rock Show. In the spirit of fairness and individuality, our gallant host, Guy Bellamy gave a ‘fair kick of the ball’ to our intrepid heroes who have weathered more storms than most.
The ominous strumming that begins this tale is disquieting and yet you wait to receive the news it brings, no matter how grave. The unmistakably rich and complex voice of HRH, Peter Wolfe adds so much character to the already mesmerising and ensnaring composition, written by guitarist Jon ‘Monty’ Montgomerie, definitely a songwriter that needs to be explored further, I’m sure he has an absolute treasure trove of ideas.
The title reminds me of the saying ‘get behind me, Satan’ a profound statement that embodies the ongoing battle between good and evil, a battle that is as old as time. Maybe there are no winners here.
The artwork is full of feeling and ignites our faith that there is a Supreme Being that watches over us. The cross, a symbol of salvation and protection in times of trouble. We are scared yet hopeful, an idea that sits parallel to the state of our music industry.
To deny the Arts is to deny our future and our footing on the world stage. It is a dereliction of duty that leads down a very slippery slope, one from which, I believe there is no coming back. It is an obscene waste of power and influence; it is obvious that those with the power have lost their sense of responsibility. Unlike other artists, Copperworm think long and hard about what they will leave behind.

‘Get behind me, get behind me, evil one’

For those who should know better, this is for you.
