The Ghost of You

‘Echoes turn into blades, as the voice of reason fades away’.

Our Texan cousins Upon a Burning Body return with a blistering new single, dealing with the serious issue of substance abuse. I am sure that many of us have been affected by addiction in some way, this release is particularly poignant as the fans have given the names of those who are struggling through this terrifying condition. These names have been written on the clothes the band are wearing and on their equipment. A tribute that is incredibly touching and soul crushing, when we realise that despite all our knowledge and advancements, we cannot tackle the causes and consequences of addiction and all the calamities it brings.
The words ‘I didn’t hear the others calling, but there’s still time to catch you falling’ are graphic and exacting in their portrayal. The melodious riffs that carry the song, through the uncompromising vocals, hard as nails and as soft a cotton wool, all packed into the body of singer Danny Leal.
With an upcoming tour of the USA, they will fortify their cause, and their unquenchable thirst to build friendships and communities across the world. They harbour an intense passion to communicate important subjects and connect with their audience.
It was their ‘Chains of Agony’ that got me through lockdown, I have no doubt that UABB will continue the noble work they do, radiating compassion, care, empathy and humility, all qualities that are the measure of decency. Check in on your friends and family, for above , below, betwixt and between we create the environment for and the capacity for another ghost.
