Ivy Gold talk upcoming UK tour!

Who is answering the questions?

Manou and Sebastian

So, how did the album title for ‘Broken Silence’ come together, and what does it mean to you?

Manou: The album title is coming from the title track “Broken Silence”. We decided to call it that because we feel this particular song is very strong, has a big message and a strong vibe. The song really talks about truth, finding it, living by it, speaking the truth. We feel a very important theme at these times we live in.

Can you tell us a bit about the main themes and influences that run throughout ‘Broken Silence’?

Manou: I feel that the main themes that run through “Broken Silence” are really touching topics such as staying strong despite the chaos of the outer world, having faith, being true to yourself no matter what others may think or say, it’s really a journey and life lessons that we all deal with sooner or later in life. But for me there is always hope, faith and trust that in the end – everything will turn out good!

Who produced ‘Broken Silence’ and what were they like to work with (If you produced it yourself, why did you wish to work that way, and what did it bring to the creative process?)

Sebastian: Both albums have been produced by ourselves.. Ivy Gold is a self-made band, we handle everything on our own as we think, the creative process as well as the business side of the band is in better hands, when we take care of it by ourselves – at least in the beginning of our career. The business is tough and it’s so hard to make some money these days, but every promoter, producer, etc. is asking for money! But even for the creative process it’s important to go your own way, to find your style as this is what you have to get into your music! But of course, we cannot do EVERYTHING by ourselves,, we do have a few people helping us and without those we wouldn’t be where we are now. Coming back to your question, we produced the album but our engineer in Los Angeles made a great production of it all!

Tough question time. What do you want ‘Broken Silence’ to do for the representation of Ivy Gold?

Manou: “Broken Silence” is our second full length album and it would be great to create again more awareness of Ivy Gold – we would love to expand on our circle of influence, reach out to a bigger audience with our music. It’s really our heart based goal to touch people with our music and maybe we can make a little difference in their lives!

How would you say that the sound of the band has evolved since the release of ‘Six Dusty Winds’?

Sebastian: Well, everything is a process and there is no goal to change or evolve the sound so to speak. We try out different things such as grooves, harmonies, choirs and whatever we like we keep, the rest we delete 🙂 So I guess “Broken Silence” has more rock influences but also nice gospel flavors.. but overall it’s all blues & rock

How excited are you for your upcoming (and first ever!) UK tour, and what can attending fans expect?

Manou: Oh we are just so thrilled about our first UK tour! After touring in a duo line-up, it will be great to have a pumping band on my side! It is just fabulous to have this awesome band sharing the stage with me and I am sure the spark and the energy will reach the audience. I am so excited to engage and meet our UK fans!

You’ll be performing as a five piece band for this tour, so, what will that bring to the show?

Sebastian: In fall 2023 we toured with Robert Jon & The Wreck as well as with Marc Broussard. We toured in a duo-line up, so just me and Manou, two guitars and two voices. It was a great experience, you cannot imagine, it’s tough without a band and a lot more difficult but we enjoyed it so much! It’s so intimate playing that way! But still, having a band behind you really rocks! For the shows in the UK in March we have a UK based band with Mel Gaynor on drums, Matt Girling on keys, Kevin Moore on bass and me and Manou! Really looking forward to it!

What else can we expect from Ivy Gold in 2024?

Sebastian: After the UK tour we will spend some time in the studio to compose and produce new songs! But hopefully we are touring in fall as well! So we are on a journey and since the beginning it’s just like a flow, everything is just happening, we are working hard on our music but most things are happening.
