EATER circa 2024 get some teeth. Live review from The Face Bar Reading.

EATER/JO JO & THE TEETH/JULIET AND THE RAGING ROMEOS

THE FACE BAR READING

The welcoming warmth of a bustling Face Bar crowd gives Juliet And The Raging Romeos a positive reaction to their uniquely Punk without being Punk delivery. Jo Jo And The Teeth are on double duty tonight as well, banging out a massively impressive support set; they are also the band behind Andy Blade’s latest Eater incarnation. JJATT sneers, pumps and thunderclaps through an aural and visual Rock ‘N’ Roll feast. Teeth are loosened, blisters are taped up as ‘Don’t Get Too Heavy’ kicks the Cheap Trick donkey while ‘No More Good News’ has a darkly addictive 80s feel—their tumble-dryer combination of alternative styles and heartfelt delivery ticks all the “must keep an eye on” boxes.

Original Punk Andy Blade is gearing up for a busy 2024, and tonight’s headline show proves it’ll definitely be one to watch. The sassy, brooding and intelligent Fagan of London 1976 “means it, man”, as ‘Ann’ and ‘Waiting For My Man’ are triumphantly squeezed out. Decked in his stock black shades baseball hat with a shirt and tie, the iconic marmite Mr Blade and JJAT lead us through an absorbing hour-long Eater set. The punchy duo ‘Thinkin’ Of The USA’ and ‘No Brains’ help round off a night where we got three top bands for the cost of a pint and a half at London’s 02 Arena. As with anything Andy Blade-related, you always get “what you fucking deserve,” and tonight, we got a bargain.
