When did the initial idea for your latest single come together?
Hello, I am Elmar of ELOAĦ, and that is very interesting question to start with, because I cannot answer that with a specific date or time, because I never have an “idea” for a new song. Our songs come into existence spontaneously, it is not a conscious process like drawing plans to build a house. It can happen at the worst of times, meaning that new songs might present themselves to me when I have absolutely no time to rehearse them, or sometimes a couple of new songs appear shortly after each other, and then for months nothing happens. So, to summarize: I never had an initial idea for our latest single. Our latest single “Caterpillar” was chosen to be “the single” after the album was released, and the song came to me in February 2022 – I had the feeling that I should pick up my guitar, then I played the first notes, took pen and paper, started to write the lyrics, and shortly afterwards “Caterpillar” had become a song…
How would you describe the track, to a reader that is unfamiliar with the band?
This song possesses a dreamy and introspective quality, characterized by its acoustic singer-songwriter style. It incorporates gentle saxophone embellishments that add a touch of jazzy atmosphere to the composition. Notably, this piece stands out for its vocal arrangement, as it showcases a harmonious interplay of both male and female voices. This dynamic vocal combination is supposed to add depth and emotional resonance to the song.
Can you tell us a bit more about the meaning behind the track?
This song delves into the theme of love, exploring its purity and innocence to such an extent that you may find it challenging to fully believe your own emotions. The way you attempt to articulate these feelings to yourself may strike you as clichéd or overly sentimental. Nevertheless, deep down, you recognize that these emotions are undeniably genuine. It’s just that you haven’t previously encountered an experience of this magnitude. In the past, when you heard others describe similar emotions, you dismissed it as exaggerated and ridiculous. Now, however, you’ve discovered that love can indeed be this intense, profound, and exquisite. As a result, you begin to daydream about the person you love. Yet, you don’t even venture into the realm of envisioning a realistic future together. Such a thought exceeds your wildest imagination. Instead, you content yourself with picturing the person’s face, extending your warmest wishes for their happiness, love, and success. Perhaps, in some distant future or another lifetime, after undergoing personal growth and transformation, the possibility of being together might materialize.
How would you say that the track compares to anything you’ve done before?
This represents a natural extension of our musical style into the realm of love ballads. Lila, our female vocalist, and I have collaborated on similar arrangements in the past, but this particular song stands out as a fresh pinnacle due to its gentleness and innocence.
What was the hardest part about putting it together, and why?
To be honest, putting this song together was surprisingly effortless. The majority t of the recordings of everybody involved were completed in one or two takes, all musicians involved immediately picked up the mood and the atmosphere, making the entire process of composing, recording, and producing this song both smooth and enjoyable.
