Interview: Ghosts of Sunset

So how has your latest album/EP gone so far with fans then?

We’ve been really fortunate to have connected with a group of people who seem to enjoy the kind of music we grew up on mixed with elements from various genres and decades. I really believe the fanbase we’ve built and continue to build are very “educated” in their listening tastes. They’ll take a journey with you.

Tell us something about the release no one knows?

The cover photo wasn’t planned. My partner Todd’s daughter walked out of her room with the mask and snorkel and Todd snapped a photo. It was just too cool not to use.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Right now, I would like to work with Butch Walker. I love his writing and his production. His records sound the way I like records to sound and he’s got that wide range of influence I mentioned above.

How has your latest release been received?

Very well, some people are saying it’s their favourite in our short history.

Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?

Our latest single “Afterthought” is a musical salute to the punchy punk rock of the late 70s and early 80s, as well as more modern “pop punk”. Lyrically it tells the story of a forgotten lover who only serves the image of the person she’s with.

What tours do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?

As of right now, touring is cost prohibitive, so we exist as a writing and recording band. We’re always looking for a way to make live performances work.

What venue are you most looking forward to playing the most, and why?

See above. Todd and I both still play live a lot. We’re always working in some form or another while we write and record for Ghosts of Sunset.

What else can we expect from you in 2023?

Maybe another single, we might pop up on a tribute album, new video, promote, promote, promote.
