Interview: Heathen Hearts

Answers by Jere – Guitars / Backing vocals

When did the initial idea for your latest single come together?

I wrote the first version of the song “IGNITE” at the same time as the first songs for the first EP was written. We have played the original version live several times starting from the first show but in the end it felt a bit too rushed or weird somehow. So the final version was put together on the demo sessions a couple of weeks before we actually started recording the EP. Came out very well with all the gang shouts and choirs, thanks to the shouting team Toni, Matti & Tero!

How would you describe the track, to a reader that is unfamiliar with the band?

“Ignite” shows maybe a bit more traditional hardcore punk side of our sound and our influences. It still has the metalish vibe to it, but still it’s closer to the more traditional sound. Fast, aggressive with kind of a sing a long chorus.

Can you tell us a bit more about the meaning behind the track?

Antti is not very interested to open up his lyrics and meanings, but “Ignite this fucking world” should tell somewhat enough.

How would you say that the track compares to anything you’ve done before?

In my personal opinion, it is just as fist in the face as any other of our faster tracks. Of course the arrangement is just as simple as it should be, and was thought so that it will trundle through right from the start. The choir at the end is of course something that we just felt, tried and came out very good.

What was the hardest part about putting it together, and why?

Actually there was almost zero work with the arrangements. It just clicked and that’s it.

Why should a reader check out the track?

If you like hardcore punk, if you like metal, if you like Finland there are three very good reasons to check it out.

What else can you tell us about the track that we haven’t covered in this interview?

Chorus is the only section of the song that was on the original version. Gang shouts & choirs were just a test, and good that they worked as good as we thought they would.
