Interview: Takar Nabam

When did the initial idea for the track ‘Further’ come together?

It was in the winter on 2020, when me and my wife had a little fight, the after effects of which sustained for a little longer than usual. I could have written an angry song, but I’m not that guy and I resorted to writing a rather fun song instead. I dedicated the song to her on our first wedding anniversary.

How would you describe the track, to a reader that is unfamiliar with the band?

Have you ever felt that you wanted to initiate a conversation with your lover after a really bad fight, but couldn’t find the right way to do so? This is the song for you.

Can you tell us a bit more about the meaning behind the track?

It a cold wintry day sometime in December 2020, I had a fight with my better half. But as usual, it sparked an inspiration in me. I just took out my first ever electric guitar, a red coloured Yamaha which was gifted to me back in 2002 by my parents. I started to pen down whatever it is that was going on my mind and tried to strum along to a tune that came to me quite instantly. So Instead of continuing to fight, I wrote a song about our journey together -remembering all the good times we had spent and how she had been such an important part of my journey through my days of gloom and glory. I just felt so fortunate and blessed to have her in my life. I only wish for it to go even further. So I dedicated this song on our first wedding anniversary, back in 2021, but I only got to do a proper recording and release it officially in 2022.

How would you say that the track compares to anything you’ve done before?

The song was based around a groovy bass line, and that’s what I love about it. I don’t think I’ve written a groovy and funky love song like this one before. So this was definitely something off of my usual alley. I’m also glad that I could slip in a guitar solo that complemented well with the song.

What was the hardest part about putting it together, and why?

The hardest part about putting it together was trusting myself with everything I did on it. Unlike most of my previous songs, which involved creative inputs by session artist’s and going to a proper studio for it, everything was performed and recorded all by myself at my mini home setup. I did like it a lot, but then I kept wondering what it would have been like had I taken the older route ? It was a fun and a learning process, nonetheless!

Why should a reader check out the track?

Because the 3 minutes the reader will spend on this song will be totally worthwhile.

What else can you tell us about the track, that we haven’t covered in this interview?

The artwork of the song, which is basically a picture of me and my wife, was clicked next to a dam in Pare Resort, Arunachal Pradesh, India.
