Album Review: Immerse – The Weight That Holds Me Here

Bristol based metalcore band Immerse are releasing their sophomore album ‘The Weight That Holds Me Here’ on 26 March!

Immerse’s latest singles ‘Red Shade’ and ‘Paralyse’ have amassed over 175,000 plays on Spotify within 2 months and they have a busy touring schedule planned for 2021, touring and playing shows with the likes of From Sorrow To Serenity, Blood Youth and Heart Of A Coward.

From the first few seconds of ‘VILE’ you already know this is going to be a much darker album than their previous release. The raw, punchy vocals combined with the searing riffs and aggressive thumping of the drums make this track a whole new level of intense and gets their sophomore album off to an attacking start.

‘WITHYOU’ presents a slightly different side to Immerse and brings a bit of a break from the cacophonous introductory tracks. It really accentuates Archie’s melodious vocals and demonstrates the different layers that make up metalcore music, something which is reiterated on a bigger scale in ‘MORE’ and ‘LIGHTS’.

Don’t get too comfortable in these delicate tracks because ‘2319’ comes along like a smack in the face! This song is the embodiment of fierce metalcore and makes you want to dive headfirst in to a mosh pit, if you’re in need of a cathartic listen then you’ve come to the right place.

This album is intense in every sense of the word. Despite having a largely metalcore sound, Immerse have embraced a range of sounds thus striking a much welcomed balance between songs making it a varied and unpredictable listen. If you’re not a metalcore fan then no fear, there is something in this album for everyone.
