Interview: Immerse talk latest single ‘Here’s Hoping’

UK based melodic hardcore band Immerse have experienced crazy levels of success following the release of their debut album ‘Suffer’. This album has already achieved over 1 million streams and Immerse are currently in the build up to releasing their sophomore album ‘The Weight That Holds Me Here’.

Giving us one of our first glimpses in to this album is ‘Here’s Hoping’ which was released on 3rd July. It is a powerful song about realising someone’s true colours and was the perfect way of getting people hooked in prep for the album release!

We had a chat with Immerse to talk all things ‘Here’s Hoping’ and how they are managing the current global situation as a band…

What was the inspiration behind ‘Here’s Hoping’?

“The lyrics for this song I wrote when I realised that someone I considered a friend and thought I knew showed their true colours.

“I got sick of them playing the victim for what they were doing to their friends and constantly making up lies about who they were and eventually just decided to cut them out of my life.”

The music video for ‘Here’s Hoping’ is simplistic yet really effective, I particularly enjoyed the uniqueness of the clips involving the person under water, the woman wearing the veil, etc.

Was there any particular meaning/significance behind these clips or was it just for aesthetics?

“It’s actually a combination of meaning and aesthetics. I wanted the person drowning to represent them drowning in their own words and struggling to escape what they’ve created.

“The crystal ball melting represents our friendship slowly turning from a solid state to a toxic mess. I’m glad you picked up on something more from the video though as it’s all self-planned by us to make it more personal.”

Why did you choose to release ‘Here’s Hoping’ as a single? Do you feel it gives a particularly good insight into what can be expected from future releases?

“We chose to release ‘Here’s Hoping’ as a single because it shows our diversity and is a strong track, our first single ‘23/19’ is more on the heavier side, whereas ‘Here’s Hoping’ shows more of the clean singing and our more melodic and Pop punk elements.

“But we are definitely a band that wants to keep people guessing with what we are going to release, we could do acoustic songs next if we wanted then go back to heavy!

“We feel that our unique musical stamp is carried throughout all of our releases and we enjoy keeping fans excited.”

Did you have any reservations about releasing new music during the coronavirus pandemic?

“Definitely! This pandemic has been horrible for the music industry. No one has faced anything like this so it’s almost impossible to tell what the correct direction is on how to do things.

“The upside is people have nothing to do at the moment so new music would always be a welcome site as it could help people cope with the isolation and keep them occupied.

“The only downside is for smaller bands like us, releases are key to helping push for tours and there currently aren’t any. We’re excited to move forward with a fresh plan that we’ve worked hard on with our management.”

Your single ‘23/19’ was released earlier this year, what have the responses been like so far?

“Honestly we are so grateful to everyone for how well they received 23/19. It was our first single since our debut album ‘SUFFER’ and definitely gave people a new taste of what we can do.

“It’s the most energetic song we’ve released and people have received it with open arms! Especially being one of our heaviest tracks to date, so for that we honestly can’t thank our fans enough.”

How have you found creating music during the pandemic? What has been different about it? Has there been anything you have particularly liked about it?

“It’s honestly been a lot easier for me lyrically, you almost lose the stress of the outside world and it really freed up my thought process. Not to mention the weather at the moment has been so nice I’ve been able to sit outside with my laptop and really grab that inspiration to help with the newer sound we are going for.

“The guys have been on fire too! Especially now Ben has joined and started writing some new music with Tim. He has definitely added his own style to the songs and his hair is a great addition to the live set haha!”

What are you most excited about doing as a band once the word has somewhat ‘returned to normal’?

“Touring for sure, as a band it’s some of the best and worst moments. You go out expecting everything to go smoothly which it never does and you come back with great stories!

“For me touring is the highlight of being in a band, you get to meet people who have genuinely taken an interest in something you have created and who are passionate about music you make. It’s honestly a beautiful thing to travel for 14 hours to a different country and find someone you’ve managed to reach with your music.”
