Interview: SUNGLO talk latest single

After releasing their first single ‘I Don’t Mind’ last year, Manchester band SUNGLO have been crafting an onslaught of releases set to pleasure your ears across 2019 and beyond. The dreamy grunge-pop rockers have been deemed as “happy filth” by BBC Introducing Manchester, and they’re about to embark on their next campaign. Released now, their new single ‘Elevator Belle’ breaks genre-boundaries and takes their eccentric psychedelic goodness up another notch. Fronted by Kady Jones, whose euphoric husky voice transcends the track into new levels of haziness, the 4-piece have a unique ability to have you in a complete daze one minute, then head-banging the next. Backed by Oli Foster (Bass), Sam O’Reilly (Drums) and Cameron Davies (Lead Guitar), SUNGLO change from melancholic easy-listening to fuzzy, arena-worthy choruses in a heartbeat.

With shows lined up at Jimmy’s, Manchester and Alternative Escape on the 10th May, as well as just supporting Orchards, SUNGLO are soon turning themselves into ‘ones-to-watch’ as they fearlessly deliver their intoxicating controlled chaos time and time again.

Now armed with new single ‘Elevator Belle,’ they’re taking the year by storm and they want every single one of you to join them – who’s in?

We managed to catch up with the band before the release, check it out below!

So how pumped are you for the release of Elevator Belle?

So ecstatic to finally get it out there. We had a lot of fun recording this one and to hear it all come together is a real proud moment for us.

Can you tell us something about the new single no one else knows?

We jammed the song live for almost a year before it was written completely. Some of the lyrics were even improvised during recording.

So what’s next for you, will you be releasing an EP/Album?

Yeah we’ve got a 5-track ep that we’re looking to launch mid-July. Each song is as different as the previous whilst embarking on a similar vibe.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

We would love to work with Dinosaur Pile-up as we are big fans of them.

Have you got any tour dates coming up this year?

We do actually. In July we have several dates across England and also an EP release show in Manchester which would definitely be one for you to mark in your diaries.

What do you all get up to in your spare time when not working on music?

We’d like to say we do cultured things like go to museums and drink smoothies, but in reality we’re still milking our expired student cards and refusing to fit into our graduate roles.

How proud are you to be recognised by the likes of BBC Introducing? Honestly it still feels unreal. It’s always been something we’ve strived to get on to. To find out that they are into our music is amazing.
