The message is very clear: each person is unique and it is foolish to try to change for the others. In Let Me Be Me, the brazilian band Lyria shows that it takes courage to be who you are and to live your inner truth. The song is part of the album “Immersion”, released in 2018 and already available in streamings. Recorded at the top of a building, the video was directed by Lyria in partnership with CS Music Videos, producer already known in the independent scene.

It is from the top of a building in the center of Rio de Janeiro city that Let Me Be Me pulsates. One of the most requested songs in the concerts of Lyria, the lyrics talks about to persist and face the unknown, but never losing the essence of who you are. This is the second single from “Immersion” (2018) and succeeds “Hard to Believe”, which also won a music video that today exceeds 140,000 views on YouTube.

Screaming from the top of a building for all to hear, the desire is to have a place in the light. Recorded with natural lighting, you can see the difference from previous videos, from “Hard to Believe” and “Jester”, which assumed darkness as a recurring element. In this song, the Lyria seeks the clarity, as if at last it arrived at the point that it ambitioned: being themselves.
One of the great names of the brazilian metal, the Lyria is formed by Rod Wolf (guitar), Thiago Zig (bass) and Thiago Mateu (drums), besides Aline. Since 2012 on the road, they have become known in Brazil and in countries in Europe and the United States since the release of “Catharsis”, debut album in 2014. Currently they are on tour with the album “Immersion”, which has already passed by several cities in Brazil.

The Let Me Be Me video was edited and produced by CS Music’s Vinicius Hozara, who also directed and directed the film with Lyria. The capturing of images by means of drones was of Glauber Barros and CS Music Videos. CS Music Videos is an independent production company that has worked with Lyria on other occasions, such as the “Jester” video, which has more than 230,000 views on YouTube. The company has also worked with bands like Hatefulmurder, Cara de Porco, Ágona, among others.

Check out Let Me Be Me below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their latest single and more!

1So how has your latest single Let Me Be Me gone down so far?

Let Me Be Me has been really well received not only for the Symphonic Metal fans but also for the rock fans. In less than two months we had more than 150.000 views only on YouTube.

Can you tell us something about the single no one else knows?

I wrote this song at home, when I was really pissed off. I came with the melody and lyrics done and showed to Zig and Rod in a rehearsal and we created the instrumental parts together. The chorus changed a little bit too with some new ideas of Zig and it was the first new song we played to our fans in an online concert, before the release of Immersion.

Will you be releasing an album/EP soon?

So, we released Immersion some months ago and we need to promote it more. We are on tour in our country and we intend to play in more cities this year. And of course, we will have more online concerts too.

What’s the alternative scene like in Brazil at the moment?

We have some good bands here and also a lot of different venues but unfortunately many of them prefer only cover bands or bands that don’t play rock and metal. Also we have so much competition among the bands, promoters, etc. Everybody should collaborate, but it doesn’t happen sometimes. Many just want to promote their friends, others want to get all the credit and many don’t see music as a job but as hobby. Fortunately in this chaos we also have amazing people that work a lot to make it happen.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

So many good bands and artists, it is very difficult to choose just one. I will choose a band outside the Symphonic Metal genre. Let’s go with Disturbed, because I think it would be cool and different to have a male voice like David Draiman’s voice in a duet with me.

Will you be touring the UK soon?

It will happen, but unfortunately I don’t know when. We are studying some possibilities. It is important to spread the word about Lyria in UK, ask for Lyria on the Festivals’ pages, etc. Maybe it can help us to go and play there soon. 🙂

What do you all get up to in your spare time when not working on music?

I make jewelry. I also like to cook and to pose and take photos. The guys and I also like to spend our time with our family. 🙂
