Interview: Glen Matlock talks single ‘Keep On Pushing’

Sex Pistol and bass-playing extraordinaire Glen Matlock is here to lift your spirits with new single Keep On Pushing.

Already named as the Coolest Record In The World by Steven Van Zandt (of Springsteen‘s E-Street Band and Sopranos fame) on Sirius XMKeep On Pushingis a call to arms, inspiring the strength to push through to a better tomorrow – a fitting message in this trying political climate.

Keep On Pushing comes from Matlock’s critically acclaimed album Good To Go. Recently, he’s been busy being the 1st UK artist to playNorth Korea’s Demilitarized Zone, joining Celtic-punks Dropkick Murphys on their sold out EU tour and is currently touring South America with UK dates planned later this year.

We managed to catch up with Glen has talked about single Keep On Pushing and more!

So how has the release of Keep On Pushing gone down so far?

Well I have had had some fantastic reviews and feedback so I am pleased with that.

I never expected it to be top of the charts but it seems to be doing well in helping me carve a niche for myself as a contemporary artist albeit with a historical pedigree.

Tell us something about the single no one else knows?

It’s in the key of e and features both my Gibson J45 and my then recently purchased Gibson Hummingbird as a double track.

How has the album Good To Go gone down with fans?

Seems to and I haven’t heard anybody moaning about it – well not to my face anyway!

Will you be releasing new music at all this year?

Well this is not long out so give me a break – there is still life in this yet with a radio single ‘Keep On Pushing”  being released from it as we speak and the next ‘Sexy Beast’ coming out in a couple of months to coincide with it featuring in the film ‘Fisherman’s friends which hits theatres early spring.

How was North Korea’s Demilitarised Zone?

Very interesting – I didn’t have too many expectations of what to find and was quite taken aback by what I saw and happy to have had the chance to travel there and hook up with some great people with a very positive attitude.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

I’d love to do something more with my all-time favourites the Faces and would also like to collaborate with Iggy Pop again as I think he is still as contemporary as they come.

Do you still catch up with everyone from Sex Pistols and work on new music with them?

Not really a little with some of them in fits and starts as everybody is scattered around the world.

Will you be touring the UK at all in 2019?

Yep. UK, Scandinavia, Japan the US and South America where I have already played this year and just returned from, are all on the cards and will be announced soon.
