Interview: Saint Lo. talk latest video

Wounds is a song about the rupture of relationships, about community, and about telling a story toward growth. Wounds represents a deeply personal experience intersecting with notions of friendship, compassion, and creativity.

Heartbreak does not occur in isolation; it is marked by intersecting systems of power including but not limited to patriarchal violence, heteronormativity, and misogyny. Wounds was written to capture the nuances of moving through pain while at once challenging the male gaze. To heal and carry on.

Filmed on a rainy day on the traditional territory of the WS’ANEC’ (Saanich), Lkwungen (Songhees), Wyomilth (Esquimalt) peoples of the Coast Salish Nation, otherwise known as Esquimalt and Victoria on Vancouver Island, we’re excited to share the song and video with the world.

Wounds is the second single from our upcoming record ‘We Could Be’, set for release in 2019. Check out Wounds below!

We managed to catch up with Saint Lo. as they talked about their latest track and more!

So how has the release of Wounds gone down with fans so far?
We have been excited and proud about all the warm support and interest we’ve received so far. It seems like folks are digging it and connecting with the subject matter. It’s been really nice to hear back from folks about what they’ve taken away from the video and the song itself.

How pumped are you for the release of your album ‘We Could Be’ and have you got a release date?

Super pumped. There are pieces of our hearts all over this album. We were really intentional about what we included on the album and why, and we are excited to share it. You’ll hear from us in 2019.

Can you tell us something about the album no one else knows?

We went through a lot of album names before coming to the final one. Alternative names included: “Tender Places Golden Places”, “Draw What You Will”, and “The Company You Keep”.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
We’d probably all be ecstatic at the chance to work with Andy Shauf. We really appreciate the dynamics in his instrumentation and arranging. We think he’s a great writer.

Will you be playing any shows in 2019?

Yes! Stay tuned for announcements in the new year.

Will you be playing at many festivals in 2019 or anything planned?
We have got a big year ahead and hope to play as many festivals as we can. We played the ArtSwells festival in British Columbia this past August, and it was super lovely. Check our social media for upcoming show announcements!

What do you get up to in your spare time when not working on music?
We bake cookies, lift weights, go dancing, write poetry, write code, and make playlists. We have a game called Secret Santa Playlist, which is exactly what it sounds like, except with a competitive element where you try to guess who made your playlist. Some of us take it very seriously.
