Interview: Sean Smith (Former lead singer of The Blackout) talks latest podcasts, new band and more!

Former The Blackout lead singer Sean Smith has started a new podcast which first aired two weeks ago. Sean has already talked about good times & good stories from The Blackout as well as him & co-host Morgan Richards talking about the end of the band, how it came about, what his thoughts were on it ending, how he thought the band could stay together, and what he think caused the end. Now Sean will be hosting a number of high profile names in the coming weeks including McFly’s Dougie Poynter. Check out the previous two episodes below!

Up Next:

Dec 14th Episode 3: Aled Phillips and his time with Kids in Glasshouses.
Dec 21st Episode 4: Jason Perry on A, producing TBO, kigh, Don bronco etc.
Dec 28th Episode 5: Dougie Poynter. Talks Mcfly, being in A, his mate “sir Dave” swearing about dinosaur fossils.

We managed to catch up with Sean as he talked about the new podcasts, his new band and more!

So how has your first two podcasts gone down so far?

The podcasts have been SUPER well received so far!
The feedback has been amazing and it’s been so good to hear that people like the stories and it’s made them reminisce about The Blackout and going to gigs.

Do you find that a lot of Blackout fans are listening or have you got more of a wider fan base for these?

It’s a varied mix really. We have had some comments along the lines of “I never liked The Blackout or Sean but these are great insights and stories about the music business” or. “I liked The Blackout but thought Sean was annoying…but so good to hear his side of what happened!” Which really befuddled me….why would you listen to a podcast BY someone you thought was annoying?…either way…I’m super appreciative of anyone at all that gives it a listen OR puts it on silent and runs it at 3 times the speed on Spotify! *WINK*

You have some big names coming up, are these bands you have met on tour while with The Blackout?

I think that the majority of guests I will have met prior to the interview/chats that we do for Sappenin. Whether this being from travelling the world with The Blackout or just lucky enough to know people. I dont just want band members, we are hoping for wrestlers, TV & film, UFC fighters, rappers….you name it and I have an interest in it and want to talk about it!

So what do you get up to in your spare time when not working on the podcast?

I’ve started a new band. RAIDERS.
Myself and Bob from TBO have joined forces once more to create a rock monster!

Will you ever consider doing some solo music in the future?

Is that just me screaming on my own? If so, I’m doing solo performances in my head to a deadline, every day!

Do you miss playing live shows and touring?

I miss it like you’d miss oxygen. It’s what makes me happiest. At Raiders first secret show, I went a bit too crazy and head butted my way thru a table due to the devil taking over when we started our set. It’s been too long since I’ve been onstage and seeing bands mime is making me want to get back and show them how its done.

Is there any future at all for The Blackout, is there likely to a comeback anytime soon?

We touch on this in the first TWO episodes of Sappenin’ podcast with Sean Smith.
