Interview: Rozu talk latest single

Rozu (Japanese for Rose) is a post-hardcore 4-piece from Denver, Colorado consisting of longtime artists Tim Graham on vocals, David Sundine on guitar, Brian Robertson on drums, and Henry Navarre on bass. With a hard-hitting debut EP on the horizon Rozu aims to take both local and national music scenes by storm. With full intention to tour constantly and consistently in support of their debut effort expected to release the latter half of 2018, Rozu is the next band to keep your eyes on, as their penchant for all things driving, melodic, and heavy make them a standout you won’t want to miss. The band have just released their single ‘Dissolve’ which you can check out below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their latest single and more!

So how has your latest single gone so far with fans then?

Well we have only just released our debut single ‘Dissolve’ but so far we have had an amazing reaction to it. Especially with our band being new and all our members having been in the scene so long it is a truly amazing feeling to already have such a strong following that is loving that song and all the creative we have released so far. I think everyone is going to really enjoy what we have planned for the remainder of 2018.

Tell us something about the release no one knows?

Well not too many people know this but ‘Dissolve’ was completely written and finished before this band was even an idea, which is pretty cool. Myself (Tim) and my friend Tyler Ruehl got together for a couple days and just wanted to write a really cool song which we did, but I never really knew how to release it until we started Rozu and writing and the band was super stoked on that song and we just decided to have that be the first release. Honestly that song was about to be on Soundcloud back it December but ended up being released in June to introduce this project.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

It would be intimidating as all hell but if we worked on a song with Underoath I could die a happy man the next day. That band is such an icon and especially how they all blend their different backgrounds and taste into their music to create an Underoath song would be truly incredible to work with.

How has your latest single been received?

‘Dissolve’ has really been received well. That release has had so much engagement and has gotten so many people hyped for what is next from Rozu.

Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?

The meaning behind the track is just all about cutting people out of your life that almost bring you down. We all have had a toxic friend, group, boss, etc in our lives that really created a tension due to differences in outlooks on life. That with a little bit of inner battle with myself of wanting to give up somedays and putting that side to rest and knowing my worth, drive, and passion for my art and life. Cut that negative attitude or poor drive out of your life and pursue nothing but the best from yourself everyday you have because who knows what’s after this life.

What tours do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?

We can’t necessarily talk about them at this point but we do have some things in the works for early 2019.

What venue are you most looking forward to playing the most, and why?

I honestly can not wait to get back to Seattle and Portland. El Corazon in Seattle and the Hawthorne Theatre in Portland are among my top 5 venues I’ve played in my career. Especially Seattle because I have a bunch of friends there that I would love to see again and honestly Portland is my favorite city in the US.

What else can we expect from you in 2018?

Well we don’t want to give away too much right now but we did just finish up a batch of songs and finishing an album on top of that so we are going to be releasing some more singles every couple months and starting to get out on some smaller runs gearing up for 2019.
