Interview: Cortex Complex talk latest album

It’s the year 2177. The world has succumbed to highly evolved artificial intelligence and it’s nearing extinction. Humanity has been using this highly evolved A.I. as slaves until a rogue group of machines under the leadership of the ‘Glass Mind’ fought and won against the human governments. Two malfunctioned humanoids developed love and admiration for humanity and decided to travel back to the year 2015 to warn humanity, through music, of it’s fate. Their aim is to protect the future of humanity and create a world where man and machine can live together in perfect harmony. Now SJ001 – Codename: Bishop – Vocals, VP001 – Codename: Astrid – Vocals, MN343 – Codename: Orville – Guitars & Bass
and TA328 – Codename: WIlbur – Drums released their second album last year titled Memoirs of an Apocalypse which you can check out below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their latest album and more!

So how has your latest album gone so far with fans then?

Our second album, “Memoirs of an Apocalypse” was released in November and it’s going pretty great! We got very positive feedback and our fanbase is growing every day! We are still quite an underground band though!

Tell us something about the release no one knows?

Well. Initially it was actually going to be part of a two album release with the second part released 6 months later (16 songs in total). However, in the end I wasn’t too happy with the quality of some songs and decided to ditch that idea. Some unused tracks will probably be appearing in our future work though!

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Probably with Dream Theater. Working with any musician from that particular band would be an awesome, and highly educational experience! They’ve been my main influences ever since I was a kid.

How has your latest single been received?

Our latex single was actually an instrumental track, titled “Neocortex,” out of our latest album! It was received quite well, but it had a much more limited audience than the rest, due to it’s instrumental nature. Fellow musicians loved it though!

Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?

“Memoirs of an Apocalypse” is a concept album basically and “Neocortex” is the fifth track of the album. It’s a very energetic track and it’s there to prepare the listener for the climactic final three songs of the album! It really made a world of a difference having that track in the middle of the album. Without it, the pace of the album and transitions between tracks felt a bit weird and off.

What tours do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?

Due to Cortex Complex being a Sci-Fi virtual band, and the fact that right now the band is basically my solo project featuring various session musicians, a tour would be very hard to organise. It’s still quite low on the list of priorities, so we’ll remain a studio band for the foreseeable future. I’d love to go on a tour one day though!

What else can we expect from you in 2018?

We have already released animated music videos for each of the first five tracks of the album! You can expect animations for the final three songs by the end of the Summer! Apart from that, I am currently writing the third album but realistically it won’t be released until 2019!
