Live Review: Jizzy Pearl’s Love Hate, The Black Bullets, Doomsday Outlaw at The Face Bar, Reading

The Black Bullets crash through their short but high octane set of Warrior Soul Rock ‘N’ Roll, their night ends with the bassist’s flashing instrument being taken for an off stage, crowd walkabout. Doomsday Outlaw further enhance their growing reputation with an entertaining performance of energetic ear-pleasing Rock. ‘Tale Of A Broken Man’ and ‘All You Need Is Soul’ fly by.The band finish with the title track from their latest release ‘Hard Times’. Doomsday Outlaw plays Camden Rocks on June 2nd and are well worth checking out. Jizzy Pearl is a seasoned Pro and as such the modest-sized crowd doesn’t stop the enigmatic frontman delivering a five-star show. For a start he looks and sounds great, he sings every note as if it were 1990 plus his band stick tightly to the originals. The old fan favourites are all played along with a sprinkling of tracks from his brand new solo album ‘All You Need Is Soul’. ‘Tumbleweed’, ‘Spit’ and the alcoholic, on a bender, anthem ‘Fuel To Run’ are all bellowed out like Grunge never happened. The pavement Punk brilliance of the band’s debut album is played pretty much in its entirety’ and almost three decades on it still Rocks like a cocaine-fuelled, Jack Daniels ravaged motherfucker. ‘Mary Jane’, ‘Don’t Fuck With Me’, ‘Straight Jacket’ and the timeless ‘Wasted In America’ highlight the man and bands impressive back catalogue. The Sunset Strip neon-splattered after dark party Rockfest is completed with two stonewall Love Hate classics. ‘Why Do You Think They Call It Dope’ and the huge “so you say you can’t remember” ‘Blackout In The Red Room’. The tour continues throughout the UK in May/June.
