Interview: Lucids talk upcoming single

Lucids are an up and coming four-piece alternative rock band from the small town of Grangemouth, Scotland. They formed in 2016 when friends Ian McIntyre (lead vocals, guitar) and Danny Maclaren (lead vocals, guitar) decided it was their time to take on the UK indie scene which they adored.

After spending time creating their own authentic sound, they asked Dean Fullarton (bass) and Stuart McIntyre (drums) to join the band.

Their anthemic melodies and catchy lyrics quickly gained them popularity in the Scottish Indie music scene, and within a few months of gigging around Glasgow and Edinburgh, had headlined some of the UK’s best live venues – including King Tut’s Wah Wah hut.

In November 2017 they recorded their debut single The Fall with the UK’s leading independent music label – Sound-Hub records – which is due to be released tomorrow! Check out the artwork below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their upcoming release and more!

How pumped are you for the release of The Fall?

We can’t put into words how excited we are for the release – it’s been a long time coming! We’ve had such great feedback from our live gigs it will just be great to finally get some of our music out there for everyone to hear!

Can you tell us something about the release no one else knows?

We actually all still call the song The Finisher. When it was written we never gave it a name and it was always the song we played last at gigs – hence The Finisher. We actually only named it The Fall at the very last minute whilst recording the single.

What was your favourite moment recording the single?

The entire experience of working in a professional studio and hearing our songs come to life was completely mesmerising for us! The pinnacle moment was when the guys at Sound-Hub played the final mix back to us for the first time.

Will you be releasing an EP/Album at all this year?

It’s doubtful that we’ll be releasing an EP this year, however, there will definitely be at least 1 or 2 more singles released in 2018!

So what’s the alternative scene like in Grangemouth?

Growing up in Grangemouth we never knew of anyone in bands or making music – you were probably actually seen as a bit weird if you were in a band! But recently there has been a small rise in bands from Grangemouth and Falkirk making good original music – which is great to see!

How have the guys at Sound Hub Records helped you become the band you are today?

The guys at Sound-Hub provided us with the platform to take our music to the next level. They recorded and produced our new single to a standard that we couldn’t have been more delighted with and provided us with great advice in developing our band further.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

If we could write with any band it would have to be The Last Shadow Puppets. In our opinion Alex Turner is one of the best lyricists of all time and to add that with Miles Kane’s great songwriting ability it’s a perfect combination!

What do you get up to in your spare time when not working on music?

We like to catch as many gigs as we can and are always listening to new music to share with eachother. This definitely helps us come up with fresh ideas when we write.

Have you got any tours or festivals planned for 2018?

We don’t have any tours for this year planned at the minute. However, we’re looking to get a good set of gigs around Scotland and maybe more places in the UK this summer following the release of the single!
