Brisbane, Australia post-alternative rock outfit Between Kings are releasing their debut album The Escape on May 4.

The band will be on the road in Australia promoting the new record as support for Escape The Fate and Awaken I Am, May 28-June 4. See dates at bottom.

Filmed in their hometown, The Escape video is a narrative delving into self-esteem and domestic violence that paired with driving rhythms, soaring melodies and lyrics like.

The soaring track has over 160k spins on Spotify and has already garnered play on LA’s KROQ and other key stations across the US.

Between Kings play with an immediacy that has been missing from most modern rock. The band has developed a palette of songs that pour out of the speakers with emotional intensity and vitality. When Between Kings pick up their instruments they aren’t playing songs, they are letting the audience take a listen to their most intimate thoughts and feelings.

The songs they created reach out and speak to their generation with inspiration emanating from Nic looking in the rear-view mirror on his early life experiences growing up in South Africa, surrounded by violence and crime to Jordan’s emotional passion from insecurities experienced as a teenager, Jayden’s born showmanship from life growing up watching his dad play gigs and Tricky’s desire to drum until there was a noise complaint.

Playing with a heartfelt resonance one minute, then mixing it with arena-rock balladry the next, the band triumphantly uses melodic elements making it irresistible for rock enthusiasts to throw up the horns, or even hit the dance floor. With the group quickly developing a bond over their desire to create infectious rhythms and powerful hooks they bring together the sound that is Between Kings! Check out the title track of the upcoming album below!

We managed to catch up with guitarist Jordan Coyne as he talks about the band’s upcoming album and more!

How pumped are you for the release of your album The Escape?

We poured our hearts and souls into this album, myself, I worked roughly 14-18 hours a day for 5 months on writing. So along with it being our first worldwide album we are so excited to share the first taste of what we’ve devoted our lives to doing.

Can you tell us something about the release no one else knows?

The song and album title “The Escape” was intentional, as the whole album is themed around escapism. What was unintentional though is while writing we didn’t have that theme in mind at all. We write from the best and worst times in our lives, minds and emotions. So stepping back from it all and looking at the songs we noticed the pattern

What is your favorite track on the album?

We all have our own favorites in the band but personally I feel it’s “Forget the Comedown”. Having said that, my favorite changes almost every day!

How has the title track gone down with fans so far?

It’s been incredible! With all the streams and positive reception with fans commenting, sharing and personal messaging us, the love is unreal. We have people saying we’re their favorite band, we’ve touched their lives in some way or even helped them get through hard times, so to hear all of that feedback from our music has meant the world to us.

How pumped are you to be playing alongside Escape The Fate and what tour date are you most looking forward to playing?

We haven’t been able to wipe the smiles off our faces since we were announced! It’s our first tour ever so we couldn’t be happier it’s with such an iconic band. As for the dates, honestly it is all of them. Since we’ve never toured we’re looking forward to playing for and meeting fans we haven’t been able to before.

If you could work with any band on new song, who would it be and why?

We have multiple different vibes between songs, so I’d love to work with Imagine Dragons or Bring Me the Horizon if it were to be a huge anthem song or Twenty One Pilots or The Chainsmokers if it was more dancing and electronic.

What do you get up to in your spare time when not working on music?

The band and all of our partners are like family. We truly love each other and hang out. So when we’re not writing we all do things together like watching movies, playing games, going to the beach, riding bikes and just sitting around having a laugh.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

I was lucky enough to see the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in 2006. Stadium Arcadium was out which is one of my favourite albums. I got to see them when John Frusciante was in the band who was one of the people who inspired me to play music.
