EP Review: Black Anchors – Self Titled

Hailing from England’s South West Punk-ish band Black Anchors only formed in November 2017 and are still very much in their band infancy. Their debut self-titled E.P is a promising sign of music to come from the interesting three-piece. Kicking off with the late night bedroom anthem ‘Favourite Records’, the lightly polished urgent sound pushes vans on to floorboards and bandaged hands into ceilings. ‘Me, Tom Waits And An Empty Bottle Of Rum’ pounds with youthful Gaslight Anthem sensibilities and hungover tales of celebratory pain, “New friends, old ghosts”, indeed. ‘Resurrection Summer’ follows a similar personal path of memories good times, girls, river kisses and cut grass. The faux Oasis-ish acoustic riff on the final cut of ‘Heavenly Lane’ morphs into a festival tent, phones in the air sing-a-long. The Black Anchors have delivered a heartening E.P of potential, poise and Punk (in it’s loosest sense).
