Interview: TrueHeights’ Luke Poland talks upcoming EP

Acclaimed young alt-rockers TrueHeights are back with a bang with their new EP Days We Found (out 6th April, We Are Triumphant). The EP follows the acclaimed mini album TH15, released in 2015.

Days We Found is an anthemic release; a fine collection of UK alt-rock songs following in the vein of Mallory Knox, Don Broco, Kids in Glass Houses. Led by Zakk Poland’s triumphant vocals, supported by brother Luke on lead guitar, and with second set of brothers Steve and Ashley Maugham on synths and bass respectively, TrueHeights’ new EP will help to propel the youthful group even further in 2018.

Listen out for the chest-bursting high of middle track No Tomorrow, which even harkens to mid-era Fall Out Boy at their most balladic, or the storming and crunching lead single Exit Route, reminiscent of a driving Deaf Havana.

The band were also recently announced for Fat Lip Festival and KRAP Karnage 2018. Check out Exit Route below!

We managed to catch up with TrueHeights’ lead guitarist Luke Poland as he talked about the band’s upcoming EP and more!

So how pumped are you for the release of Days We Found?

Super pumped! It has been a long time coming and we can’t wait to get it out! We know from experience, being in a number of different bands, that if you haven’t released anything in a while, you lose momentum. People just being people, stop giving a s***, so a friendly tip for any other bands out there trying to make it, keep your fans sweet. After all, if it weren’t for those then there would be no scene! So with the record, we aim to please and we are excited to see what people make of it.

Is this any different to your mini album TH15?

Absolutely. We purposely made an EP with 5 very different sounding tracks on. The reason we did this was to see how people are reacting to our new stuff so they can help choose our destiny in what sound we should progress to for future releases.

What is your favourite track from the album?

I think we all have different favourites, for very different reasons -as you can imagine! I think Exit Route pushes the boundaries of the previous stuff we have released so far, so let’s go for that.
How has the initial release of Still Moving Colour?
Still Moving Colour was great. However, I think ‘Exit Route’ was the most anticipated, with it being our first taster of ‘Days We Found’ since TH15.

2018 is an exciting year for you guys including spots at Fat Lip Festival and KRAP Karnage 2018, what shows are you most looking forward to playing?

Wow, yeah, damn we are lucky! There are some awesome gigs lined-up, being on the same bill as Mallory Knox, Ash, Feeder, [spunge], ROAM, Carcer City, Fizzy Blood, Black Peaks, Hacktivist, Bad sign, Homebound, Tigress… the list is endless and certainly those 2 are going to be KILLER shows!

We actually have the EP release party 13th April, and for that we want to choreograph something extra special for the home crowd too.

How blown away were you from the response of City Lies?

City Lies was originally written as an acoustic track anyway, so seemed natural to bring it back to its roots. At the same time it was a great opportunity for us to work with our buddy, Connor Ball (The Vamps) who invited us round to his gaff to record it.

On that note, we would like to thanks everyone who donated as we smashed our target! Money was raised for Bedforshire & Nothamptonshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre -a charity very close to our hearts in the band, so thank you!

What do you get up to in your spare time when not writing music?
Well…

Kiffy (Kris) is a bit of a nut case, into his gym and goes bouldering (rock climbing I believe with no proper harness!)
Alex is actually a professional singer-songwriter and runs the majority of local open mic nights.
Zakk is a keen photographer, and I vouch that his work is INSANE, so go check it out on insta!
Steve’s a lazy git. Sleeps all day but deffo parties all night!
Ash is deffo the life and soul of the band. The most outgoing, wacky guy you could ever meet.
Kookie (Luke) is considering the ‘boring’ one. Business head by day, but spends all his money on new gear!

If you could play at any venue in the world, where would it be and why?

Ooo… nice one. I would probably go for Wembley Stadium, London. It’s our capital city and we have always wanted to open a set with “HELLO WEMBLEY!!”
