Live Review: Waterparks at Southampton’s Engine Rooms

Waterparks

It was a night of incredible talent as South coast favorites Dead! joined the ever brilliant pop punk band Patent Pending and of course the main headliners Waterparks during their ‘Entertainment’ tour.

Dead! certainly warmed up the packed out crowd at Southampton’s Engine Rooms. They played the likes of The Golden Age Is Not Even Trying and You’re So Cheap and it was great to see that the majority of the crowd knew their songs and managed to sing along and have a good time.

Dead!

Dead! Also played Enough Enough Enough earlier in the set which was a personal highlight of mine. These boys have plenty of potential and I can just see the band growing their fan base by the day!

While waiting for Patent Pending to the stage, lead singer Joe Ragosta alongside Waterparks lead singer Awsten Knight shouted down to fans who were outside. We also managed to catch up with Joe before their set as he talked about new music, the tour and more!

Joe sang Britney Spears’ …Baby One More Time as a solo sound check and warm up as fans sung along. They started with I Already Know (She Don’t Give a Shit About Me) which kicked off the party from the first minute and that followed by Anti-Everything. Patent Pending also played classics such as Let Go and Psycho in Love which has arguably helped them become the band they are today.

Psycho In Love also got every single fan doing pirate fingers and Let Go got everyone using their jazz hands so it was a real interactive experience for fans. There was even a crowd swimming competition which Patent Pending are famous for holding fans had to swim to reach the stage. Joe and the band played two covers on the night including Cascada’s Everytime We Touch and Christina Aguilera’s Gini In A Bottle which went down an absolute treat with fans.

Patent Pending

Joe mentioned about Teddy Rocks Festival – the festival they played last year and there was a heart whelming moment when Joe started to talk about anti-suicide and he reminded fans to remember that they have a home at a Patent Pending gig. The set seemed to have ended way to quickly with Patent Pending’s arguably most famous song Hey Mario getting fans off their feet. They ended the set with Brighter and then Douchbag which was a great way to end a feel-good performance.

With the crowd well and truly warmed up, headliners Waterparks took to the stage and you could hear the crowd screaming the band’s name in joy. Fronted by the brilliant Awsten, Waterparks started off with 11:11 and then followed by Blonde and it was just amazing to see so many fans connect with the band. The pop punk outfit then played Peach (Lobotomy) and Crave which were great to hear live and really got the crowd pumped up for the rest of the set. Take Her To The Moon was also another solid addition to the set as was Royal. You could really tell the band were enjoying every last minute of the set and they even received a rainbow flag by a fan. Fresh from their US tour with Neck Deep, Creeper’s Sean Scott was in the crowd also watching on. Waterparks carried on with the likes of Sleep Alone and Lucky People which Awsten performed acoustically.

Waterparks then played Not Warriors, We Need To Talk and the brilliant Stupid For You which is a personal favourite of mine! The band came on for an encore and sung Crybaby and TANTRUM which you could tell fans absolutely loved. Throughout the night there was plenty of crowd surfing and mosh pits making it a night to remember for everyone involved.
