Liverpool-based trio Vile Assembly recently released their new single Division of Labour. The track fuses the classic ‘70s punk vibe of The Clash and the Sex Pistols with more considered Bowie-esque lyrics.
Vile Assembly was created solely to be the whistleblowers on unjust society; their purpose to say what needs to be said through the universally understood medium of music. The trio sparked anarchy and debate and garnered global media acclaim as far reaching as Japan with the release of their debut single Suicide Feast earlier this year. After chart success in Germany, France, UK and South America with their second release, Gone, the band is back with Division of Labour, the follow-up single to be featured on the upcoming album Fattened by the Horrors of War. We managed to catch up with the band as they talked about their latest single and more!
How has the release of Division of Labour gone so far?
The release of Division Of Labour has been interesting. It’s getting great reviews and airplay in both UK and USA. I think that’s because people are not used to songs talking about the social and political corruption that’s is going on in our countries and maybe people are thankful someone is finally saying it.
Tell us something about the track nobody knows?
The track took 2 hours to write record and produce. It’s easy though because the corruption from the countries ‘ politicians and corporate criminals give s us plenty to write about!
When will Fattened By The Horrors Of War be released?
Fattened By The Horrors Of War will be out in May 2018.
Can you tell us something about the album?
Fattened By The Horrors Of War is a batch of songs that talks about the state of world we are living in today and broaches subjects ranging from religion, homelessness, political corruption, war, corporate corruption, static evolution and also shows the similarities between the French Revolution and what’s happening today.
If you could work with any band on a new song who would it be and why?
We would love to work with U2 so we could get them to stop bringing out that utter shite music they’ve released and maybe get them to release something that is relevant. If we couldn’t get any relevance out of them, we would tie them up, sellotape their mouths and lock them in the cupboard to stop any more releases from them, and would instead record on our own. But we would love to record a song (s) with Iggy Pop — he is as relevant today as he was in the 70s.
What tour and festival plans have you got for 2018?
We have been asked to do a lot of the festivals in UK and Europe. We are in the USA in April/May this year, and have shows in LA and San Diego, plus radio visits planned too. We have to say though that popularity and fame are not on our agenda — we will play live dates of our choice. It is important for Vile Assembly to play live and meet the people who are buying our music!
What do you get up to in your spare time when your not making music?
In our spare time whilst not making music, we will go our separate ways trying to find ideas and sounds and words to bring back to the studio. Our lives have been dedicated to music for most of our lives, so no matter what we are doing, music is always around us telling us what to do, how to think, how to feel and what to say. We communicate through music and music communicates through us. We are also active on the political scene in the UK!
What was the first gig you all went to?
First gig we went to together was Half Man Half Biscuit.
