Live Review: Marmozets at Southampton’s Engine Rooms

Marmozets proved why they are one of the most talked about bands in the UK alternative scene right now as a packed Southampton’s Engine Rooms enjoyed a superb night of ferocious vocals and simply pure awesomeness.

Liverpool punk band Queen Zee supported Marmozets on the night and I have to say I was really impressed. With the band influenced by the city’s working-class politics, LGBT+ community, and diversity, Queen Zee certainly warmed up the packed out crowd. They played their latest song Idle Crown which really went down well and every single one of them put in 110% into their set which is something they almost certainly have done all tour.

The band recently released their track Victim Age and the Southampton crowd were treated to it early as well as the likes of Boy and Fly The Pink Flag which was great to see. Overall Queen Zee have a lot of potential ahead of them and will no doubt headline venues like Engine Rooms in the near future.

Lead singer Rebecca MacIntyre showed exactly what the UK alternative scene is all about as her and the rest of Marmozets totally blew the minds of the excited crowd and provided some fierce vocals as well as some absolute killer riffs. The band started with New Religion which was followed by the brilliant Habits and Is It Horrible. With set finishing fairly early, due to a You Me At Six DJ set following after, Marmozets still played an incredible 17 songs and a personal favourite of mine was Insomnia which I could really relate to and it had some deep lyrics. Something Rebecca said in-between songs is ‘never give up on yourselves’ which is something I definitely took away from the show.

With the likes of Suffocation, Lost in Translation and Run With The Rhythm in the band’s locker, it was lways going to be a great show. Marmozets finished on Captivate You which was a perfect way to end a showcase of some of the finest rock music the country has to offer.
