Interview: Avenues End talk latest music video

Avenues End are a space punk trio from the Mornington Peninsula, Australia. With an energetic live show and well-crafted songs, which walk the line between ambience and punk rock (or space punk), Avenues End have landed themselves on stages with local legends and national acts alike. Now they have released the lyric video for their track Racing Time released on their latest EP it’s not all bad back in November last year. Check out the video below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about their latest video for Racing Time and more!

How was the initial response been for the music video for Racing Time?

Maybe it’s just our parents hitting refresh on the YouTube page, but every time we check, the video has climbed by several hundred views. We are stoked, especially considering it’s our first DIY vid… hopefully the first of many to come!

Can you tell us something about the track nobody knows?

I hear if you reverse it, there is a secret satanic message… or is that Stairway? I think the most interesting part of the track is the level of DIY involved… especially in the clip. We wanted to see how far we could get with a cool concept and a bit of DIY action. We actually filmed the whole thing on an iPhone SE, simply because it was so easy to snap up a cool shot whilst we were on the road. We created the green screen ourselves, which is a combination of the most hideous green material we could find and PVC pipes. DIY lead the way. It was a good little challenge to see how far we could get without bringing in the usual big guns.

Would you say this is one of your favourites on the EP?

For sure. It’s got a special place on our setlist at the moment, and definitely captures a different vibe from the rest of the songs on the EP.

How has the EP it’s not all bad gone down so far with fans?

Most have told us it’s not all bad. Did we choose the name for pun sake? Maybe. Will we stop using it as a pun in interviews? Never. In all honesty, it has been great. It’s something  we worked on tirelessly, so we are stoked that everyone is enjoying it as much as we are.

Will you be working on new music this year?

The thing we’ve come to realise as a band is we are all chronic procrastinators. The upside of that is, most of the time we choose to write a new song instead of what we were supposed to do. It’s in our blood. So hopefully you will see a few new tunes coming your way soon.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Definitely The Wiggles. Hot Potato, Big Red Car, Wake Up Jeff… they just write hits. Plus who could go past a colourful skivvy.

Will you be touring in 2018 at all?

For certain! Since our EP has come out we’ve been doing our best to travel to the best regional hotspots we can find. We are looking forward to adding a few more to the list in 2018.

What’s the alternative scene like in Australia at the moment?

Australia has a killer scene brewing. There are some great bands lurking down under, we are all just waiting for the world to peer over and take a look.

What was the first gig you all ever attended?

Oh wow this one is taking us back. A few interesting ones in here for sure. Isaac’s first concert experience was with the mighty Foo Fighters. Ryan’s was with the prog masterminds Dream Theater. Ivo’s, completely left of centre, was the Frank Stallone… who can truly resist the lure of Far From Over though.
