Interview: The Lotus talk latest release

The live acts of The Lotus are not only entertaining. They are catching, amazing and intriguing!

The ability to find the right sounds and to create elaborate melodies is what gets The Lotus’ audience into an inner journey. Rarefied and psychedelic atmospheres and impulsive explosions of groove and aggressiveness alternating each other. Who Already appreciates bands such as Faith No More, Muse, Pink Floyd and Metallica can not show indifference towards the unique mixture of The Lotus.

This music does not put limits to its listeners, so it Becomes the center of an emotional sharing For the most varied audience.

In 2010 the band released their first album Forgotten Silence through Copro Records (UK).

In June 2013 they released a new EP named Tomorrow and their first video clip for the single ‘Why Are We Still Living in the Yesterdays?’ .

Their first publication was very well-acclaimed by local and foreign press. However, Tomorrow did not aim to maintain its stylistic continuity and after exactly two years, The Lotus released their third work named Awakening: a progressive and psychedelic ambient cinematic odyssey into the fears of human brain.

The band recently released single Five Days To Shine which you can check out below!

The Lotus are: Rox Capriotti (vocals, bass, keyboards), Luca De Falco (guitar, back.vocals), Kristal Cross (synths, programming, back.vocals), and Marco Lancs (drums). We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about their latest release and more!

So how has your latest album/EP gone so far with fans then?

Hello everyone and thanks for having us on Original Rock. We actually haven’t release the new album yet but we’ve released 3 singles in May, August and November. All those 3 songs will be featured in our new album, which should be released by the end of 2018.
However, to answer you question, we’d say they’re gone really well so far, especially our second release ‘Perfect Love’: we’ve got more than 50000 views on youtube for its video!

Tell us something about the release no one knows?

Well, this is going to be our second album but not our second release. We’ve released our first full lenght in 2011 (Forgotten Silence), followed by 2 EPs in 2013 (Tomorrow) and 2015 (Awakening).
What’s coming next is the real second album, also because there will be some songs written before the first came out!
It won’t be a concept album as ‘Forgotten Silence’ but it will definitely have a recurring themes like disillution, unreality, men’s faith, etc…it won’t be a sad album though.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

We would love to share our ideas with Muse which is also our favourite band. You know, we think Matt Bellamy is one of the most talented and creative musician of our days and having him, Dom and Chris on board to work on a new song would be a dream come true. We’re working on our new album with Muse’s first producer Paul Reeve though, so that’s a start. 🙂

How has your latest single been received?

We’ve released our third single called ‘Five Days To Shine’ the 24th of November on all major digital channels, including Youtube as we also realised the video completely by ourselves.
Considering that this is a very calm and intimate song, not very poppy, it’s going really well.
People are starting to know who we are and what we do, and that’s what we really wanted to achieve with these singles out.
The next step will be 4th single and album release.

Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?

This song, Five Days To Shine, is very personal and we think the more you listen to it (or watch the video) the more you understand that. It basically talks about this man who waits for five days to know his fate with this girl. He thinks that’ll be alright but the future isn’t bright.
We made the video representing this man as a kind of ‘creator’, who’s trying everything to restore what he’s lost but eventually he gives up. We filmed it in a stunning place in Manchester called Hulme Hyppodrome. This place is run by squatters (really nice guys) that let us use it for our shots.

What tours do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?

We are currently playing mainly in the Manchester area but we’re planning to do several UK tours next year, and possibly Europe too.
We’re also trying to get some slots in UK/EU Festivals but we cannot say anything yet.
Our goal is to release the album and start a worldwide tour between 2018 and 2020.

What venue are you most looking forward to playing the most, and why?

There are a lot of places we would love to play! Let’s start from the little ones then if everything goes well (we hope so!) we will aim to play at Wembley Arena, lol! Well, that would be a dream but doing a tour visiting all the small arenas all over the UK and EU would be fantastic.

What else can we expect from you as we head towards 2018?

As we said before, 2018 will bring A LOT of stuff from The Lotus. We will go back to the studio to finish recording the album in the beginning on 2018. Then we are expecting to release the fourth single as soon as we have everything in its place, and the album immediately after that.
