Interview: The Hoosiers at Bournemouth’s The Old Fire Station

The Hoosiers

The Hoosiers are currently on their biggest tour to date in celebration of their tenth anniversary of their debut album The Trick of Life. With plenty of tour dates ahead int he coming months, The Hoosiers were joined by only one support act which was Bournemouth band Greyside. They had a punk sound to them with a pop rock vibe and played a couple of sounds about the town Bournemouth’s itself. Their last song Litte Town was a particular highlight for me and has elements of Moose Blood to it. I could tell that these guys have a lot of potential and were the perfect support act to warm the crowd up.

Greyside

With just two of the original members of The Hoosiers around along with their supporting band, you’d forgive them if they weren’t up to scratch however it was the complete reverse and I have to say The Hoosiers totally lived up to expectations. Having come onto an electronic beat, Alan Sharland and Irwin Sparkes took to the stage with a buzzing crowd waiting for them to perform tracks from the debut album that created so much buzz ten years ago. They started with Worried About Ray after they mentioned about people watching the set through phones. With Worst Case Scenario and Run Rabbit Run following, it was time for the classic Goodbye Mr A that the whole venue sang along before they let the crowd know that one of the supporting band is from Bournemouth. Cling on for Life was a really sweet song and despite not everyone knowing the lyrics it provided a really nice atmosphere. They ended the set with the title song of the debut album The Trick of Life which set up five songs for encore that included Choices which they finished on. We managed to catch up with Alan and Irwin before their set as they talked about the debut album, current tour and more!
