EP Review: Echoic – Shadows of You

Reading trio ECHOIC second E.P ‘Shadows Of You’ draws on a plethora of styles but has a distinct White Lies bloodline running through this impressive five track E.P. First up is the box ticking, tent filling anthem ’Blame’ – By Guy Shankland. The mix of vocal styles and subtle changes in electric tempo push it into the modern anthem arena. Second track ‘Ghost’ stalks the first with unnerving accuracy and while it doesn’t reach the heights of ’Blame’ it still demands your attention. ‘We Burn Just Like This’ has an early gentle Teleman feel, which is then left behind as it slowly rises to a Rockier summit. ‘Next to You’ fights ‘Blame’ for the standout track of the five. It has all Pop/Electronic/Rock/Indie attributes in spades and wouldn’t be out of place on any alternative or mainstream Radio station. The not out of place bonus track ‘Messed Up Smiles’ completes this superior release. Echoic have shown enough here to get their foot lodged securely in the industry door, they just need an opening.
