Album Review: Ginger Wildheart – Mutation III – Dark Black

Ginger Wildheart’s side project MUTATION release their third burnt out offering, the mentally unstable, death screaming ‘III: Dark Black’ – By Guy Shankland. Opening track ‘Authenticity’ explodes into your ears with such a deep dark ferocity that it could literally strip the skin from your face, it’s just brutal. Next is ‘Toxins’ with the opening horror vocal of “Do it!, Do it you f**king pussy” it’s a Death/Industrial Metal nightmare fuelled on Meth and its turned my confused brain into Satan’s servant. There is a slight respite with the Rammstein meets Salyer-esque ’Devoultion’, but it will still make your pressurised skull feel like your in ‘that’ scene from Scanners…Dark Black was written while Ginger and Mutation band mate Scott were processing their own bouts of severe depression and the personal suffering spews through the very veins of this kamikaze body of cathartic work. If there was to be single (no one would dare play it on air) it would probably have to be the spleen venting ’Irritant’ which chainsaws its way through your nerve ending, leaving its catchy chorus gorging on your kidneys while licking the tears off your quivering cheeks. ’Skint’, ’Victim’ and ’Hate’ all continue this supersonic joyride of rabid torment and sanity infected distress motoring along at somewhere between 100-150mph. Final track ‘Deterioration’ blows out the final flickering candle on this complete head f**k of an album. If anybody needs me I’ll be cowering in the dark corner of an abandoned warehouse, shaking with uncontrollable fear while my vital organs openly laugh at my permanently scarred psyche as they slowly shut down before my very own bloodshot and unbelieving eyes. ‘Dark Black’ is one hell of a disturbingly pure and honest release, dredged from the darkest depths of Ginger and Scott’s shipwrecked souls.
