Interview: The Shelters

LA band The Shelters have recently released their music video for Gold last month to the UK.

The band made quite a first impression with the release of their debut self-titled EP. The EP amassed over 1 million streams.

The new track has been co-produced by the legendary Tom Petty, the track is a piece of psychedelic tinged garage rock and roll. The band have also toured alongside Royal Blood this year and recently toured alongside The Lumineers in Italy.  You can check out the video for Gold below!

We managed to catch up with vocalist/guitarist Chase Simpson as he talked about Gold, latest self titled release  and more!

Can you tell us a little bit about your new release “Gold?”

Ya, its our First UK release! We’re really excited about it, definitely. It highlights a different part of the band that maybe some people haven’t seen or heard. We also released a new music video along with the song which visually takes the same approach. It also shows off the California side of all of us in the band.

What was it like working with Tom Petty on this?
Its always amazing. He’s a really great person and an equally great mentor. You’re never not learning when you’re with him.

So with your debut getting millions of streams, will there be a new release this year?
Maybe something special, we’ll see. There’s a few cool ideas floating around. We’ve definitely started to work on the second record already but that won’t done till next year.

How pumped are you to get to play alongside Royal Blood and The Lumineers this summer?
It’s been really exciting. Its always fun to play in front of a big crowd and new faces. All we hope is they dig it and we gain some new friends.

So you’ve got a UK tour this summer, what venue are you most looking forward to playing?
Hyde Park 100 percent. It;s just such a legendary place. We can’t wait.

What’s the alternative scene like in LA?
There’s a pretty big wave of psych garage rock coming outta orange county and a lot of garage 60s type stuff in silver lake. We kinda just tap in and out of things we like., but don’t really find ourselves in the epicenter of any one scene.

If you could work with any band on a new single, who would it be and why?
I think Cage the Elephant. I think we have similar interests and sensibilities and we could make a badass record.

Who has the best fashion sense out of you guys?
Haha I think that would be highly debated. I’m gonna say we’re for the most part pretty well dressed, at least when need be.

What were your first gigs that you ever attended?
I think The Offspring was one of my first concerts ever when i was like 8 or 9. And then strangely enough, I saw Eminem next!
