Interview: The Velveteins talk latest single

The velveteins.jpg

The Velveteins are a rock n’ roll band consisting of members Spencer Morphy (vocals/guitar), Addison Hiller (percussion) and Dean Kheroufi originally from Edmonton, Canada. The band is gaining some great traction leading up to their debut full length release on May 12 – Slow Wave. They just finished a short US tour including SXSW. Next they’re taking off on a coast to coast US/Canada tour in April including dates at Canadian Music Week with Wolf Parade.  You can check out Midnight Surf below!

We caught up with the band as they talked about their latest single, upcoming gigs and more!

So how has Midnight Surf gone so far with fans?
It’s gone good! It’s certainly a different vibe from what we’ve previously released, so I think it’s shaking people’s brains up a bit.

Tell us about the single
When we wrote it, Addison (drummer) and myself sat down and latched some idea’s together. We didn’t really have a final vision for the song, and just decided to follow it through into whatever weird cosmic place we ended up.
How pumped are you for the release of Slow Wave?
Heaps pumped. We’ve been playing these songs live for awhile now, so it feels pretty refreshing to get it out into the world.

How was your recent US Tour?
It was good. Super crazy. Saw some weird parts of America, but played some really sweet shows to some fresh crowds.
What venue are you most looking forward to playing the next few months?
We are playing Our Wicked Lady in Brooklyn later in April. I’ve never been to NYC so I’m pretty hyped.
If you could work with any artist in the world on a song, who would it be and why?
Elton John. He’s a straight badass
Who has the best fashion sense out of you guys?
Maybe myself or Addison.
What has been your proudest moment to date?
We recently shot a video for Midnight Surf that will be coming out soon. It features my old VW bus that was my first car I’ve ever bought. I’m pretty proud to see that ol’ girl rippin.
