Nottingham Quintet High Tides, describe themselves as ‘putting emo into pop punk since 2015’.  High Tides have for the most part, been in eachother’s lives for years and some even from school age:  Within the busy sphere pop punk, High Tides say that what sets them apart from their contempories is both their music and their live show. They are about to release their new mini album I’m Not Giving Up, I’m Just Starting Over on on 17th March via Scylla Records which the lads revealed they are ‘so pumped’ for.

Stream Lead Single 52 below!

We managed to catch up with the band as they talk about the upcoming release, leas single, proudest moment and more!

So how pumped are you to be releasing I’m Not Giving Up, I’m Just Starting Over in March?

We are SO pumped to be releasing this EP/Mini album. We actually recorded it and got the final masters back in the summer. So we’ve been sat waiting and organising this release for months! We had so much fun writing and recording all the songs so we just hope everyone else is as pumped over it as we are.

What is your favourite song from this release?

It’s hard to say really! It took a long, heated discussion just to decide on the first single and video! We each like different songs on the EP for so many different reasons. I don’t think we would ever agree on a mutual favourite!

Would you say this is different from previous releases?

We would say it’s more of a step forward rather than it’s different. We feel it still has our sound, but the songs are deeper and just more elaborate. We experimented more with lead guitar parts, using different kinds of vocals, and just put more overall thought and passion into the record.

How has the lead single 52 gone down with fans so far?

It seems to have gone down great! We’ve had a LOT of positive feedback, it’s been included in several publications with help from Inception and Scylla records, and the overall reaction of the single has been a positive one for us.

So would you say you’re more pop punk or more emo?

We’re definitely more pop punk than emo. We draw most of our influences and techniques from our pop punk backgrounds. But some of the themes in the songs, and the passion pushed through by the powerful vocals just give us a hint of Emo.

So as much as we’d like to be a full fledged Emo band, our ageing hair lines just won’t allow the sweeping fringes anymore….

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Not so much working with a band, but working with Chad Gilbert from New Found Glory would be the absolute dream! Not only is he a member of one of the biggest and best Bands who defined Pop Punk, he’s also a major player for other bands in terms of production.

What has been your proudest moment to date?

Our proudest moment would probably be the success of our first music video ‘Opia’. We released that with only a few ‘likes’ on our page, and instantly it just took off. The views and comments just kept mounting and we got so much great feedback. It surpassed our expectations really quickly and people still go mental for it live. Which is always great.

What is the music scene like in Nottingham?

The music scene is pretty good in Notts. It has several great venues, several really good bands, and the whole atmosphere around the music scene, through the genres, it’s quite a positive and friendly one. We’ve unfortunately lost a couple of great bands and venues in the area, but it’s still going strong overall.

Will there be a tour with the new release?

There will be a tour with this release! Which we are so excited about.

We start off with a home town Ep release at Nottingham’s Rock City, Basement. Which is a dream for us in itself.

We also have dates in Liverpool, Glasgow, Leeds, Brighton, Wrexham,  Swansea, Bristol, and a couple more to be confirmed.

We will be joined by our Scottish friends in Where There’s Life for the whole journey. If you haven’t checked them out already then you need to, they are crazy good and real nice guys.

Some of the line ups for the dates are insane too. Such a showcase for UK Pop Punk and we are stoked to be a part of it.
